I have a 2011 Baystar 2901 which was custom made to order. Our dealer knew the importance of our request hence wanting TWO (2) A/C units. They exclaimed that we could upgrade to get the extra unit and so be it. All happy campers! Well, that wasnt to be; upon delivery we took note that one unit was on top of our new MH and we were very, very unhappy. When asked we were told we paid for the upgrade to a larger unit only. Both my wife and I clearly heard and knew what we were asking for. The dealer refused to work with us after our disappointment and basically told us that we were stuck with this because of the custom status.
We've since traveled with this unit and have noticed that it just doesn't cool down no matter what we do. We've even taken it in for service to have the A/C checked and was told to expect whatever the degree is outside expect the inside to possibly reach 20 degrees cooler. That just doesnt sit well with me as I've traveled thru TX, NM and AZ where the temps are reaching 110 degrees. It's like a furnish inside.
So to ask my question does anyone own a Baystar that has two A/C units on it? Also, do you think Newmar can add a new unit onto the MH? Figured this might be one of those dumb questions but I gotta find out. This is my first RV and I can't afford to trade in at this point. Thanks for your thoughts.

Can't you add a second unit? Be cheaper than getting rid of it. Look back on your contract copy and see what it says....one unit or upgrade to two.

I'd be very surprised if Newmar (or an authorized dealer) couldn't add a second unit for a reasonable cost. It is probably pre-wired for two A/C units.

The dealer was North Trail RV in Ft. Lauderdale and we had a horrible purchase with these people. All I can say is BEWARE!!! As for your thoughts I am going to call the company to see what they can do. The dealer itself doesn't put the order in they send the paperwork to their parent company on the west coast. The main company puts it thru and there is a delay when they do it. Thanks for your help.

What size is the ac you might can buy a bigger one Your coach is only 29' and with the way Newmar insulates there RVs and the duct systems it should cool okay unless you are parked with no shade make sure the slide gasket is sealing no air leaks

Welcome Charbear to Newmar forum & irv2.
Which AC was ordered the 13.5 M or optional 15M unit?
The standard and option sheet in this brochure only shows a single AC that is installed on the Bay Star 29' coach.
Do you shut off your bedroom sliding door to cut down space to be cooled while traveling?
If you have it on your build sheet when deciding on your options they should have explained that it was not possible to put in a second AC.
If its on your build sheet for two than thats not right either didn't think this dealer was like this but times do change some dealer operations.
Have you call Newmar about the matter for an explaination?

007 - The brochure does list a second A/C as an option but it is part of a package with larger genny and 50 amp service and only offered on the larger coaches. Don't know what the OP ordered but he sure should check his paperwork. By the way, that dealer I wouldn't trust with a ten foot pole.

Thanks for the info DandS.
Don't know if I saw that option on Bay Star but Newmar does do at time special options if on build sheet or will say they will not do it, customer will know from them.
Your right I see that option Dave, it should be on their build spec sheet would be expensive, more than a 15M AC.
You really need to look at a brochure before making up your build sheet and go over it before submitting.
And I thought NT was a class operation.

Hi Chabear,
If you bought the unit from North trail in Dania Beach then I assume you are from South FLA and are familiar with the heat. I have my unit listed on my signature. The insulation and the double pane windows should help keep the A/C air in but there are other things you can do. Install roll up sindow shades on the driver and passenger side windows. Get them from Home Depot, mount them on a 1 by 3 board cut to fit and screw the boards up just out of sight on the window valences over those windows. If you can, keep the unit stored undercover, if not wax it 3 times a year. Cover the tires. If you don't, they will go bad in 4 years. Alway have a few hundred dollars laying around so you can replace the plastic A/C unit covers on the top of the motorhome. The sun turns them to peanut brittle in two years. Do not attempt to have a second unit installed. It will be expensive and could leave you with other problems like noise and water leaks. You have already discovered that finding competent service and sales people is not easy. I would hate to have someone learning how to be an RV tech on my unit. You unit has 30 amp service. That will make fiinding a campsite easier for you. My dash air was adequate in Texas, AZ, and NM earlier this month in 113 degree heat. Yours should also be fine as it is the same unit with less volume to chill. Your single unit should do well at night and it will be much quieter than my unit is. The second A/C unit is located directly over the bed. In AZ and Texas my units were on almost all the time. I keep it at 69 degrees.
As my way of welcoming you to this forum let me offer some suggestions that will reduce your frustration with the complicated piece of mechinery.
Don't use the lock arms. If you do make sure your tool kit has the sockets and screw drivers in it to remove them.
Always check everywhere for water leaks when ever your in it for the first year. Under sinks and between the gaps in the shower and the windshield.
Learn how to drive the unit before you decide to invest in any suspension improvements.
You don't have to replace the radio because it sounds tinny. Just replace the small speakers.
Always turn off the LP gas detector and the refrigerator before you store the unit. Even if you turn off the electrical system those two battery drains will remain on. Write a letter to the owner of that dealer in Ft. Myers. He is very hands on and wants to make sure every customer has a good experience. Good luck in your travels and keep us advised of the things you have learned.

Good luck with that !! When I had a lousy service experience in Fort Myers I filled out the rating card they gave me and wrote a letter to the dealership. Never heard a word.
Sorry to hijack the thread but this dealership has come up a couple times and I still get mad thinking about my experience there.

EVERY Nerwmar built is "custom built". They don't start construction till the dealer signs off on the build order after the buyer signs off.
Did you order a second air con OR the higher (15,000 btu) upgrade unit? It appears that the dual air cons are only offered on 30' and larger units.
I'd be surprised if a 29' would need two air cons. In 95° weather in Yuma we did just fine with one 13.5 heat pump going. We do have the optional roof insulation and dual pane windows though, but we're 41' long too.
Do you have a vent opening that could be used to add another air con? Newmar uses a ducting system and it would be rather hard and expensive to add after the fact.

If you have the 2nd a/c in writing and paid for it, you should at least have some legal remedies. If you only have the dealer's word, you are probably screwed. Don't be afraid to put in a complaint with the BBB - that often helps. Re: all Newmar's being custom ordered: Ours was in stock at a dealer's. Maybe dealers custom order them, but they all don't have a customer who has ordered them. Our 2901 Bay Star stays cool while driving with just the dash a/c running. When we stop for the afternoon and its very hot, it will take quite awhile to cool off with the roof a/c running. However, once it does over night, it will stay comfortable during the next day. The suggestion about checking for plumbing leaks was good - we had them too. Good luck and don't give up without a fight.

Padre44,
As far as I know all Newmar units are specificly ordered, some by dealers, usually with the most popular options. Some by the ultimate user, in either case they are custom ordered.
Newmar does not build spec units and then force them on dealers to sell. One reason Newmar has stayed afloat in this enviroment, while others have gone under.
