AC on 2001 DS.???

OK, trying to refurbish my 2001 Dutch Star...
Dash AC bad...
8.1L Vortec 496
Have switched 12 volts at the AC Relay output...
Can't here the clutch engaging (no clicks)...
Decide to turn the AC by hand with power off...
Feeling a roughness...

Question...when you turn by hand I would think it would be Smoooooth??
Thanks in advance...
Bob

Question.
Did you remove the serpentine belt and turn the outer portion of the A/C clutch, or just turn the center of the hub , with the belt still in place?

Belt still on, was trying to turn the inner...
Was thinking it would be smooth??
I have gauges on & have normal pressure so no leaks...
Need to craw inside the wheel well & check for ground on the AC harness as well as 12 volts...
Bob

The fact that the compressor turns , is good news.
It's been a couple of years since I worked on mine, and I'll check as soon as possible, but there will be resistance because ; after all; you are compressing the refrigerant while you turn the plate.

I don't hear a click when turning on AC so clutch is not engaging...
I have 12 volts on output of AC Relay but NO 12 volts at the AC plug-in socket???
Is there a fuse or connector between the AC Relay & AC plug-in socket???
Bob

There will be a low pressure switch/sensor , in the tubing to shut down the compressor in the event of a leak. You may have a bad connection or sensor there.
In my system , the 12v power , goes through the evaporator temp sensor, then the low pressure switch , then powers the clutch.
I'll check for pictures , and post them so you know what to look for.
