Access to entry door hardware

We've been having intermittent problems with our entry door not locking (using the touch pad) and/or unlocking. I've noticed the outside door handle can be moved at least an 1/8th inch fore and aft.

I need to get behind the door handle to see if I can adjust and tighten it but can't figure out how. There are three star fasteners, that part would be easy, but how do I remove the inside door handle and deadbolt lever. I assume the deadbolt lever just pulls off, but the handle?

Those three star screws are all that hold the outside handle on. It's a sandwich. Tighten the screws and the outside handle will snug up. These are very undersized screws, so don't go crazy on them. The interior handle assembly is all one unit. If you take out the three screws, there are just two halves to the entire assembly. There is nothing to adjust inside that mechanism that will help you. The only connection inside, is an arm, coming off a solenoid that pulls/pushes on the lock mechanism.

Center the assembly and tighten the star screws.

in case you haven't checked, are the brass contacts inside the door making contact with their opposites on the door frame side? they tend to screw in by themselves from time to time. it will cause intermittent function of the lock/unlock by the key fab or the key pad.

you can test this by the key fab, engaging the key fab, the park lights should flicker, but the lock/unlock does not respond.

Thanks all. After Don responded I simply tightened the three screws (after centering the handle as he suggested) and it has worked since.
