I have the acrylic grabbar as well, no issues/cracks that I can see, but no light in it, is it a simply matter of removing the bar to check the bulb?

Mine broke and fell on my ass. I replaced it with a stainless steel bathroom grab bar that has non slip rubber inserts on the back side so can slip with wet hands. through bolted it to the frame.

RE LIGHTED handles.. They come in two flavors (or 3)

Incandescent, Standard old fashion hot wire lamp, easily replaced, standard auto store item.

Over Driven LED,, Nice, led light, you can pick a color if you are replacing it (instrucitons follow) however they over drive it so it burns out quickly.

Properly driven led: See above save lasts a long time

Replacement:

You can get HIGH BRIGHTNESS LED's at, among other places, Radio Shack, The one I usually use is also a JUMBO,, this requires I drill out the reflector a bit.

Remove the handle, one end will have wires,, Clamp the wires RV side of the connector(s) (So they do not get lost) and disconnect Remove to bench.

Disassemble lamp assembly, Drill out reflector if needed, Unsolder existing led and resistor, Insert new led and new resistor 450 ohms is generally good, 1/4 watt will work Solder in RESISTOR.. Break

IF the connectors can be connected either way, Solder in the new led and re-assemble, Connect and test, if LED does not work reverse connectors and try again, Should work now, Reassemble handle.

IF connector is polarized so it can only connect one way:

Try it, if LED lights solder in place, If not reverse LED and try again, If it now works solder in place

NOTE: Bending the wires a bit may make it make contact.

Reassamble as above and finish the job .

Grab Bar Replacement - Monaco

I just found new a grab bar replacement for my '04 Monaco Windsor. It is just the acrylic part and fits well (no Monaco label) and has the lighting tubes and gasket on top.
Go to eBay and search for item 121563786314 - Buy It Now for $31.95.

The vendor is RVGOD (Sullivan RV Service Inc. - sullivanrv.com). Nice people, very fast shipping.

The only issue I had is that the replacement bar doesn't have the little "cup" on top by the gasket to hold the lamp housing like the original bar. You can just tape or heat-shrink it on though.

This bar should fit a veriety of 2002 - 2006 Monaco products (HR, Beaver, Safari). Take a look.

Hope this helps someone.

A call to Newmar and they sent me a new Chrome handle at No Charge. During the mounting process, I drilled a 3/8" hole on the underside of the top mounting bracket next to where the handle enters to allow a stream of light down over the handle.
Thought I had a photo but alas, no. Sorry.

Mine appears to be out as well. At least I've never seen it on. The handle is in good shape. What controls the light in the grab bar? Is it on all the time or is it controlled by patio lights or courtesy lights or cargo lights or ??? 2005 Kountry Star Gas.

The grab bar light comes on with the switch that turns on the patio light. The bulb is accessed by taking the top mounting bracket off.
