How do I add a bleach solution or disinfectant to my water tank? I have a 2005 38' Duchstar. The only fill valve seems to be the city water pressure fill. There must be an easier way that creating a pressure siphon. I made the mistake of not dumping the water some months ago when we returned home.

It will not take but a pint of clorox to do the trick. Pour the clorox into a water hose,hook to outside faucet. Turn your fill valve to fresh water tank. Turn the faucet on for 5 seconds. You are done

How do you fill your water tanks, and or where do they vent.
If it were me I would make up a length of hose with a funnel at one end and a 1/2 hose and hose end. I prefer transparent hose so I can see fluid movement.

If I read you correctly (both resposes) I fill a clear plastic hose with a pint of chorox and hook the hose upa to city water and fill the tank as usual. Probably 3/4 full and go for a ride then flush it out. a couple of times and then add some baking soda in the same manner to get ride of the residual bleach. Would that be a good exension of your suggestions?

You only need the clear hose if you want to see the movement. Like was suggested,I just put the bleach in my hose then attach and turn on the water. I haven't used baking soda. I just run the bleached water thru the system, then drain and flush. Usually twice clears most of the bleach. I do not have the hot water tank turned on.

I also never used baking soda. However you got the jist of it and you do not need a clear hose.

Not sure why people continue to talk about adding a disinfectant to the water hose, seems cumbersome and messy to me. On a Newmar coach, you can use the winterizing hose pick-up on your water pump and by putting the inlet water valve in the tank fill mode, you will pump solution directly to the tank. This quote is direct from my manual:

"Pump the chlorine solution into the tank. This is done by placing the
winterizing hose into the chlorine solution. Close the valve from the fresh
water tank to the pump and open the valve from the solution to the pump.
Turn the tank fill valve from city water to tank fill. Turn on the water
pump until all of the solution is pumped into the fresh water tank"

According to my Newmar manual, you need 1/4 cup bleach per 15 gallons of tank capacity. Another way to put the bleach into your tank would be to remove the filter, put the bleach in the fillter cannister, and then fill the tank. Good luck.

The reason I use my water hose is the bleach will disinfect the water hose and after filling the fresh water tank will run bleach water through the whole water system including the hot water tank after removing any water filters for sink or whole house.
Let set for few hours than flush out system with new water and than replace the water filters.
It will freshen up the whole system for the summer months and if system is used during season may not need to do again.
But if not used is when the egg smell may come back from not being used and hot weather does not help either.
