I've struggled over which is the best spot to put this topic. We "thought" that auto gen start was a standard feature with our coach, genset, inverter when we got it, but found after the fact that it was indeed not. So....we are looking at adding this now and what all it would take. We did ask Newmar for a quote to do the work several months ago and at $1600, we decided they really didn't want the work.
So wondering if anyone else has done this and we can brain-pick. We have a MS-2812 inverter with a ME-RC remote and the Onan 7.5 quiet diesel. Have found the ME-AGS module available for $200 or so.
Would like to wire so that it will auto start with low battery conditions and also in response to temperature. IF Newmar included a wire from the thermostat, this is easier. We have already found other wiring that Newmar includes as part of a standard wiring harness that has features we don't (i.e., we have wiring in the front for the automatic shades, but ours are manual). However, if you ask Newmar, their answer is always "only what you requested" even though we know that isn't the case.
So after the 1st question of have you added an AGS module, did you wire it into the thermostat and was there wiring already there, stubbed off someplace?
As always, appreciate any assistance up front.

This probably will not help as I have the Xantrex inverter in my coach and not the Magnum.
I discovered that the remote and the inverter were both set up for the auto-start feature but the wiring was not in place. I had my dealer run a wire(s) from the inverter to the generator and presto, I now have auto-start.
The temperature feature is one that I have not addressed yet.
Good luck!

I had Newmar install the AGS last year. It is the best thing we have added. At the same time we swapped the wet cell batteries for new AGM sealed gel cells. The AGS was installed in the hall. They also wired the thermostat in the hall.
The plus with the install is that we NEVER think of our battery and power system. The batteries are zero maintenance and if/when the power lowers, the AGS trips to charge it. It is a great thing.
The bad is the location of the thermostat. watch where you place it. We have a furnace vent the blows right at it so we have to disable the feature or it trips the AGS for heat. This is a lesson learned...
The price for the AGS install at Newmar was 500-600 or so. The batteries are a lot more though.
I will never own another coach without AGS. It is a must have for us.

Our AllStar has the feature already in the inverter sooo....three wires to the Jenny and its done. One of those projects just haven't gotten to yet. Actually with all the dry camping we do, we still will monitor the battery status manually to insure no problems.
