Advice- Father in hospice
Hello Everyone:
I am looking for some advice! My father bought a Newmar Class A Dutch Star 4364 RV 4 months ago. His plan was to take it down to Florida for the winter. His health has taken a turn and he is in hospice now, not expected to live much longer. He bought the RV for $260,000 and we owe $190,000.
We are looking to get rid of it fast to pay for hospice and funeral costs. Many dealerships are offering us 190,000-200,000.
It is a beautiful RV, 2014, 23,000 miles on it.... He only drove it to visit us on Father's Day...
What can I do to recoup more $ from this?
Hope this is an appropriate question, just don't really know where to turn.
Thank you.

Private sales always net more than a Dealer sale because Dealers need to make money too. However given all the stuff you are having to deal with that may or may not be worth the stress.
Consignment may net more money as a middle ground.

If you need a quick sale then take the best dealer offer and be glad just to pay the rig off. If you can wait (and make payments in the meantime) then private sale or consignment are the way to go.

Reeser...My thoughts and prayers go out to your dad and your entire family.
My suggestion would be to sell it for as close to the $200,000 that you can. I would encourage you to get out from under it! Please understand that this is only my suggestion, nothing more.
Feel free to Private Message me as you will probably know what I do by my Username.
All the Best...

Our thoughts and prayers are with you. The complexity and stress are a terrible combination.
I don't know where you are and all dealers have to make a profit, but I have found NIRVC - Atlanta, Dallas and Phoenix to be some of the most helpful and "family" type people we've ever dealt with. Try giving them a call - Best of luck to you.

Tuff situation for sure. We sold our last coach on RVTrader.com We listed it at average retail and sold in just 3 weeks. For your father's coach, NADA says low retail is $223,000 and average retail is $263,000. So somewhere between should net a sale for you. If you go that way, post many pictures, stage the coach, and list all the options there. You don't get any thing in NADA pricing for your options, they just help to sell.

A bit off topic, but if your father has Medicare or Medicaid, and was properly evaluated during hospice intake, all hospice care, except for 5% will be covered by Medicare or Medicaid. This includes all medications related the terminal diagnosis, and other palliative treatments. All that dependx if the hospice is Certified by Medicare
Best wishes.

I agree, when my wife had hospice care at home, she had daily visits from a CNA and RN visits every other day. Of course there were many medications, including compounding of a few of them. I never received a bill from anyone for anything. She was on Medicare and not having to worry about costs of care was a huge relief. This allowed me to hire private nurses for 12 hours a day so I could rest.
Good luck and sorry about the tough situation you are going through.

I just sold my 2017 Dutch star 4018 with 10,000 miles a few months ago. You will be lucky to get the low retail of 223. When buying from a dealer you have some type of a warranty, maybe 30 days, but I would think you don't want to offer that. Getting out from under it and attending to more important things is best. I'd put it in rvtrader.com and take the best offer you get in two weeks, and I would state it exactly like that. Just be honest about the situation and let it go to the highest bidder. You might end up giving it to a dealer. This is not the best time of the year to get top dollar, that was spring.
Best of luck to you and condolences for your family.

Just watch out for scams. Unfortunately, there are people out there who prey on someone in your situation.
Prayers for your father!

I would suggest a discussion with the finance folks to see if they would grant you a bit of breathing room until you know what's going to happen with your Dad. Obviously, just skipping payments without an explanation isn't a good idea, but you might be surprised what the finance company would be prepared to do, rather than putting you in financial jeopardy and maybe getting stuck with a very expensive item they have to sell.

Especially since they will have to collect from your father's estate when he passes unless someone else is on the loan and title. Debt does not get inherited.

The Motorhome Brokers.com very honest and trustworthy people to work with. You will need to provide info and some pictures of your fathers coach they screen potential buyers and only send you people very interested and able to buy your coach. I am not affiliated with the company but did use their services and had a very positive experience.

RVTrader.com RVT.com and iRV2.com classifieds are all good resources to research ask price for similar MHs. I find NADA higher than realistic private sale prices by 10% +/-. I use it as a piece of info but don't put a lot of wt in their $#s.
Research should give you some idea of what a private sale could net. Only you can decide if the effort is worth it given your other priorities.
I would think you have a very desirable unit...late model..high quality...proven track record of satified owners...if priced right and advertised on the above sites it could sell quickly...if you can handle the unquiries...showings...negotiations with everything else on your mind and platter.
Best wishes to you in a difficult situation.
