I'm thinking of making the leap from flooded 6v house batteries to AGM. Their a lot more $ is it worth it?

If you plan on keeping the coach more than 2 years, absolutely yes. No corrosion. Life seems better than the wet batteries and in fact may be more cost effective in the long run.

It wouldn't be worth it to me.
My 2004 DSDP was built in 8/03 and the original house batteries still work fine, after 6-1/2 years.
I had a corrosion problem the first 3 years. Then I put 2 ozs. of mineral oil in each cell of the batteries. No corrosion since then.

I would definitely change to agm batteries. I am about to replace my wet cell batteries on mu 06 allegro bay which are giving me trouble and corroding the battery rack. I had a set on my 94 allegro bay that were six years old when i traded it. I wish i would have kept them for this one.

Hi Rmellen,
I made the change to AGM batteries and am please with the results. AGMs have been in my coach a little over 2 years. For me, they are worth the $s. No maintenance (except for cleaning the top once per year), no mess, no fuss.

I made the change a year and a half ago. I have no regrets and as Gary says the battery tray has no corrosion.

Hi Refuse1,
Look in the Yellow Pages for a local battery store and shop around. Because of the cost of shipping, buying over the Internet may not be the best choice.

I replaced my wet-cells with AGM in Jan 2003. Yes, that's 7 years ago and they are still going strong. I had batteries in a fairly unaccessible location and checking and adding water was a real PITA so I often found that I had waited too long. I never had a set of wet cells last more than 1 1/2 years (my bad, I get it!). Now I completely ignore the batteries and they have lasted 7 years.

If you change to AGM batteries, do you need to make any changes to inverter settings?

Inverter, no, converter, yes. The Magnum in my Ventana has a setting for AGM batteries.

The bulk charging is done at a lower voltage than conventional batteries.

I have a magum modified sine wave as well. I thought there may be a setting so I don't cook the batteries. I will call Magnum to confirm.
