I replaced the air filter on my 2006 Essex 4508 after 25k miles, my filter gauge read about 14-15 and when it was replaced it read about 10, some how I thought it should read very low with the new filter and I am asking does anyone know of a less restrictive filter or what it should read with a new element. Also I was looking forward to better fuel mielage which did not happen.
Thanks to all,
JVR

I don't know what size the air intake is on Your Essex, but if it's as small as the ones on the Alpines it'll alway register on the gauge. The Alpines needs a bigger air intake. Everytime I change mine and run it, it shows some restriction on the gauge. There's to much restriction to the motor, in my opinion it would breathe alot better and probably better fuel mileage with a bigger intake.

The Essex has a 500 Cummins and the cleaner looks like a 5 gallon bucket, I guess it could be larger but I haven't seen any options.

I changed mine at 18,000 and didn't really need to. I don't think it is too restrictive myself.

At a national seminar a few years ago the Catapillar engine representative talked about this issue. His view was that the chassis people connected the filter gauge pickup too close the the turbocharger which affected the accuracy of the measurement. He said that the attachment point for the little hose should be moved as close as possible to the filter outlet. Alternately, you could interpolate the reading of the gauge to compensate for the reading offset.

have a nice day - Darrel

You're probably on the right track, if the filter had marginal capacity, I would have noticed some improvement in mileage and power at 25000 miles, now the new filter 8000 miles later is reading the same level on the gauge as it did at 25000.

Mine creeps up a notch everytime I run it. They shouldn't of put the damn thing on there anyway. Every time I open the hood I reset it. $110 shot to hell.
