No more squeaking and no more broken screws. Flawed TV
The LCD TV was $1099.00, the 43" visors were $728.00, the aluminum material and powder coating was about $200.00. Total cost about $2027.00.
Worth every penny if you consider this type of renovation a hobby.
Finding a LCD TV that would fit between the cabinets was a bit of a challenge and covering the holes in the ceiling with something that didn't look too out of place required the construction of an aluminum hood. The aluminum hood also supports the LCD TV.

Note the visors are overlaped which required a longer and wider board for mounting.

Very nice work! That's a lot of fabricating to do, but the results look great.

Thanks for the kudos Rick,
The hood is screwed up into the ceiling and sideways into the cabinets. Newmar uses 3 inch #8 wood screws into the ceiling which snap off when they hit somthing hard in the ceiling. I used 2.5 inch #10 sheet metal screws which torqued up very tight.
The screws into the cabinets are 3/4 inch #8 screws. They just hold the hood to the cabinets and and help hold the the cabinets to the ceiling.
Check out Flawed TV for views of the inside of the cabinets.

Bob This change over to LCD is on my list. I think I can get a 26" LCD in the existing space without 'TOO' many mods!!!

Thanks Rick

Rick,
The 32 inch Sharp Aquis fits as you see it but the clearance between the aluminum hood and the Sharp LCD is only 1/8 inch per side. The hood is 1/8 inch utility grade aluminum sheet bent to fit and powder coated flat black.
Removing the Newmar box allows for much more head room. The Sharp LCD is set deeper by about 4 inches and the bottom edge is about 3 inches higher.
This opens up the veiw a lot and also improves the entry and exit from the coach.
The Sharp Aquis LCD is available in two price points and two levels of resolution.

Great work! We have added a 26"(replacing the 23", cost $200 w/shade, plus TV-$500) to the front and are adding a 32" to the rear wall where we presently have a 26". We used the existing shades and added a center shade. Will eventually replace the 1/2 drapes with shades similiar to the ones we added on the side.

Existing rear 26" TV(the new 32" will clear slide when retracted).

Side shades
