I am considering the purchase of a 2012 Newmar Dutchstar. I am looking forward to having hydronic heating. I would appreciate some feedback on the Oasis system. Any problems. Is the diesel burner noisy and does it smell? I understand it requires annual maintenance for the burner. Is that difficult or expensive?

I like the oasis..it has 2 electric elements, so I have been told, so it will give you heat or hot water for a shower on electric without use of burner...it is a low pressure system and you can get a kit to clean and set up every year or pay and have it done by them at a rally, my option..smell not much worse than a home furnace...when dry camping because it is not on a stack i turn it on only when hot water needed and if gen set running let it run on electric..

I also have it in my DA. Mine is diesel powered and it is as quiet or quieter than some older propane units. I don't smell diesel fumes by it. The new propane burners may be a bit quieter than the diesel. During the summer when all we need is hot water the 2 element electric can handle it. When furnace is on electric can keep up but Newmar tech told me better to use diesel burner too if temps drop as the fan with run longer with electric only. When diesel comes on, it will not run long and furnace fans don't seem to run as long. I've only had our DA 1 yr so can't talk about servicing. So far, nothing

The Oasis is an option for the Dutch Star and is diesel fired. The standard hydronic heating is propane fired and is different from the Oasis brand.

Does anyone know the model number of the Oasis diesel unit that Newmar uses?

We picked up our '11 DSDP 4086 in Nov last year. We spent 4 months in the south over the winter and had nothing but problems with the Oasis.
When we moved the RV, the Oasis would not fire the boiler until I turned up the thermostats up to 99 degrees and went out side to the unit and turned it off and on and hit reset several times while my wife tried to get hot water from the tap. Eventually, it would ignite and work flawlessly until the next time we moved the coach. We would then have to repeat the procedure.
We had the compressor replaced as the red light in the front compartment (passenger side interior) indicating a heater module fault came on. The compressor replacement turned the light off but the other problems continued.
We finally gave up calling Oasis Vancouver WA for help as the person in charge of customer support (?) seemed to give up and stopped returning calls.
On returning to our dealer, the problem being intermittent, made the solution very difficult to replicate. Of course, when we got there everything was working OK ... just like going to a Doctor eh?
Finally, when we returned home, the Oasis stopped working again. My dealer told me that the Oasis was made in Richmond which is a suburb of Vancouver BC Canada. I called the factory and made an appointment with them. After having the gentleman who was involved in designing the system investigate, it was found that there was a kink in one of the plastic pipes and that at the Newmar factory, the system was not bled completely. Once those two things were corrected, it seems to be working.
We will be leaving for a three week trip next week and will have a chance to make sure that all is indeed well.
Over all, the treatment we received from the Oasis Support from Vancouver WA. was terrible, but the support we received from the factory and our Dealer was GREAT!
The concept of this heater is fantastic ... now to see if it works as the designer promised me that it would.
Joe

The OASIS model in my 2011 DSDP is a CH-50 M...,diesel & 1 or 2 elements electric (switchable). So far it seems to be working well. I do not have the extra engine coolant loop,I guess it is an option and there were some problems with the heater hose used for the engine coolant option in prior years.

I think most of hose issues were on the hydro hot system..A high pressure system and not used by Newmar any more as I understand it. It also had only one electric element so usually required the use of the burner even when on shore power..

What is the brand of the standard propane hydronic heating system? How long has it been used by Newmar? How has it worked out for folks?
