I've had some minor modifications done by newmar in the past couple of years, but right now I just had some major changes. Those changes were, replacing a J couch with a custom desk/cabinet, removing an open suite dinette and replaced with a booth type dinette, addition on another cabinet access in the galley, replace the entire windshield wiper style and type with the latest and greatest, etc., etc. It has been there since June 7th.
I would only have the factory do the work. They have the equipment, most of the stack and certainly the skills.

Peter

I've had minor things done and all were done well.

I saw Peter's coach mid project with the computer desk just about complete and it looked great.

Have had and personally observed numerous mods of all levels done at Camp Newmar. Talked to other places but would go no where else. For a Nemwar RV, there is positively no other place more qualified in terms of skill, parts availability, craftsmanship, integrity, and price. Period. If you can find any place nearly equal, please post. Yes, places like Duncan are excellent, but Camp Nemwar still has them beat on knowledge of Newmar rigs and availability of parts. Plus, custom - particularly woodwork and Corian - is no problem for Newmar, they manufacture in house so many of their components they can custom just about anything.

Your best bet is to arrange major Camp Newmar work over the winter. Lower shop rate and more than ample time to spend on your needs.

Recognize they are not a true "California custom" shop so gilded fender wells and hot tubs pneumatically lifting out of the floor are probably no go, but everything else within their vast capabilities is open for discussion. You might even get some willingness for "experimentation" in the name of future product offerings during the winter months on a really great idea.

Note that Newmar also has a "library" of thousands of previous mods, so your idea probably will NOT be the first time for them!

We just had the wide windshield power shades installed in our 2006 Kountry Star (like come standard in the 2008 and above Newmar Diesel coaches) at a place in Elkhardt. They did a very good job, but I was wondering if Newmar would/could do that and make it look more like factory stock.

I believe they will, but I and others did the work ourselves.

I replaced the stock 26" with a 40"HD.

If you go to Newmar, I know everybody wants too, don't take the factory tour.

Because when your done, you want to trade that day for a new one. Only thing that saved me was my wife don't like the dark shinny glazed cabinets and I didn't tell her she could order different ones. HA

RV Dude,

In many cases you are probably right, however Precision Painting in Breman IN beats Newmar in quality, probably price and customer satisfaction for painting. I had my 01 DSDP painted by them and the quality of work was far superior to the paint jobs on any Newmar including the Essex.

Focal Wood working and Irv Kaufman were/are as good if not better than Newmar for interior work, cabinetry etc.

Just my experience.

I 'd have to disagree with you on the paint. Just had a new door installed and painted. While there I watched how they did the paint on the new ones. They are top notch.

I am curious about your statement on Precision's paint process and how it is superior to the paint process applied to the Essex. How many coats of clear are applied and how is the clear sanded and what grit sandpaper is used?

Irv Kaufman built us a one off computer desk and matched the Corian and wood stain so well that it looks factory just functions better.

In November 2010 we took our coach (2004 DSDP 4011) to Newmar for repairs and upgrades. Newmar install cermic tile floor in the coach, replaced all carpeting on the slides, repainted the front fiberglass cap and repainted the top cap all the way around the coach. Installed the new nano Diamond Shield on the front.

The work was very well done, Alvin (Lead Tech. and crew) performed the work are true Craftsman. Have already started my list for this fall for Alvin and crew to perform. Wonderful people to work with.

I have to agree on Precision Painting. I had my 2000 Mt.Aire painted by them three years ago and the finish was unbelievable.. The 2005 MADP that I just purchased isn't near the quality of my recent paint job on the 2000. gonna wait for warmer weather and see what I can do for the finish of my new coach..... I love Newmar products
