I have the Jamo DVD player that also is surround sound receiver.

I can only get surround sound with it when playing a DVD. Should I be able to get OTA and satellite sound through it as-is, or do I have to run the sound to it?

I have the Jamo on my DS and I get sound through the TV and SAT. All I do is select the source on the JAMO unit.

I swear I tried that without success. I'll try again the next time I head to the storage lot.

My Jamo also gets very hot. I leave the cabinet open when in use. I also have to leave it open so I don't have to stand up to change the channel on the DirecTV receiver I have on the bottom shelf.

Hi 69 RoadRunner,
I have the Sony DVD/Video player. It works the same as yours. The TV sound is via the TV speakers. Suround Sound is only when playing a DVD.

The A/V stored above the driver also gets very hot. It gets so hot the DTV receiver would cut out and not restart until it cooled down. I did two things to eliminate the heat.
1. A power strip has been added and the components now plug into the strip. When traveling, if not watching TV, the power strip is turned off. With all the components off, the heat is reduced.
2. I installed a P/C processor fan in the rear of the cabinet. On/off is controled by the power strip. When the components are on, so is the fan. I chose a P/C processor fan because they tend to be very quiet.

The heat is not eliminated, but greatly reduced. So far, so good.

Is your sattelite reciever connected via RCA to the back of the video switching unit?

Gary, since we both have 05's, I probably had the same Sony DVD/Video surround system as you. Mine broke and Newmar replaced with a newer Sony, but one without a VHS player. Using my Winegard distribution switch and setting the Sony on VCR, I was able to get Direct TV to play via the surround sound speakers. Sounded much better than the speakers on the TV. Not sure I gave you the exact setup as it has been over a year since it was replaced. I miss that setup but Newmar did not have one like ours.

kneal,
My Sat receiver is connected to the Winegard distribution box with the screw on cable (like a cable TV cable).

Ben,
I tried what you posted and there is no surround sound. I still have the DVD/VHS Sony player that came with the coach.

Yes, it does go into the switching unit.

One thing that made installing the DirecTV receiver so hard was that they did not leave enough slack in the cables.

To correct my previous post, my TV now plays sound via the surround sound speakers. Ben PM'ed me the buttons that need to be pushed. The instructions were followed; everything fell into place and sound played via the surround sound speakers.

It was a "duh" moment when following Ben's instructions. Many of you know I installed a fan in the compartment where the A/V is located. To minimize the heat buildup, I placed the components on a power strip. The power strip is turned off when the equipment is not in use. The DVD/VHS player defaults to channel 2 when power is restored. My error was not changing to channel 3 so it will receive the sat signal. I'm glad the solution was so simple, even though a bit embarrassing.

Glad you got it working Gary. It is much better sound than from the TV.
