If I buy a 2007 or 2008 Allstar, will I need to do special wiring for a brake controller, or does it have a wiring harness already set up?

69roadrunner,
I believe all Newmar will come with wiring harness with one or two extra wires.
Hope this helps, Daryl

I have been in contact with Newmar and Spartan regarding this and have some info/emails from them regarding what to look for, but until I have the coach in front of me, don't know if it's enough info or not.

From Newmar:
There are blunt cut wires for the rear trailer connector and brake signal under the dash in the harness supplied by the chassis manufacturer. The wires are usually under the left side of the dash and the wires are labeled on the insulation.

From Spartan:
There will be a 6 pin connector that will have the following wires going into it. SPO90A Tow vehicle, SP091 Hood Light, SP090B Tow Vehicle Power, SP709 Trailer Brake, SP024B Brake Signal, and one open. The wires will be labeled with laser print every 6 inches with the circuit number. The open pin is where it can tap into.

OK, that's good to know. It should be easy to hook it up, then.

It may be worth contacting Spartan directly as well though as that wiring information is specifically for a 2008 Kountry Star chassis. It is my understanding that they all have a wire drop under the dash, but the numbering could be different. Spartan's customer service can be reached at rvcustservice@spartanmotors.com. Good luck.

As Afrank1971 noted above, Newmar runs two wires from the dash to the trailer electrical connector.

Here is Spartan's reply.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content"> We have checked with our engineering team and discovered that the 2009 Newmar Allstar is prewired for a trailer brake controller. The rear is wired into a 7-pin tow connector. The front is blunt cut and has "flags" to mark the wires for towing.

Even with the pre-wire I would ask for a special to run 1 or 2 one-inch electrical conduit down each frame rail from the very front all the way to the very back with junction boxes on each side of each bulkhead. This would special at some $100. Pretty cheap compared to the hassle of doing changes downstream. I'd also special conduits in the coach between AV and electrical cabinets and into the basement. These special around $50ea. Especially important if you'll add solar or expect to move stuff around.
