Has anyone added the Auto Genny Start feature to their Inverter/Generator? Looks like the Xantex I/C has everything necessary(per their tech people) and the Powertech Generator is ready-I think we just need to run the wires?

I believe it can be added to any unit really. The only thing it might not do is start the genset if the power is cut during AC use. The units wired at the factory have this feature.

I ordered the auto generator start from the factory. I have a Xantrex inverter too that has the auto gen start menu item.

However, they put in a Magnum and located between the fridge & sink.

I don't know why they did this?

Lug, Yes, according to the Xantex manual it will only start Genny on low DC voltage. Which is OK as we will use it primarily for dry camping(and we really do not want the Genny starting everytime power is out-especially in Florida). However if we are plugged into shore power and power is out long enough to reduce our DC voltage(if inverter is on) below the set threshold we will have Auto Genny Start.

When I was in Napanee they reset my "auto on" voltage to 11.4 volts...It was set at 12 and the tech said 11.4 was where they wanted it to be.

Something I've noticed is that I have to "set" or turn on the auto gen start every time.

Bob, I reset mine for 11.8 volts. I have also noticed that the auto start resets itself to off every once and a while. Not sure what triggers that but we'll figure itout.

I just went through this recently. The rig came with an RV2012 which has the capability to do AGS using a RC7/GS control unit. I had to purchase the RC7/GS to replace one supplied by Newmar and then it was simply four wires to genset. However, it will NOT start the GS for the AC. It is essentially limited to sensing voltage.

Xantrex just recently came out with the RS2000 with AGS which will start for the AC unless you have the Doutherm digital control. In that case you have to buy and install the Duotherm AGS wire kit from Duotherm as well.

Note - the model numbers can be 3000 instead of 2000 etc

Are you sure its not all ready hooked up? Normally Newmar only supplies the RC7 if its not going to be conected.

Nut...on my AGS, I have not tested it to see IF it stays enabled after turning everything off repeatedly, but if it resets to disable, that is ok. For me this is a good thing. I keep my coach in an enclosed garage and surely would not want the gen to start for any reason in there.

It is a good idea to test the AGS. My MH came with a Magnum Inverter and AGS and we noticed that the generator never kicked in when the batteries were low. When I called Magnum, they informed me that some of the pin settings in the control box may not have been set properly. They were good to work with, but it is too bad thatI had to discover this one night at 3 am when my Hydro Hot stopped working because the batteries were almost dead. The cold woke me up, it was below freezing outside.

Jerry..good idea which I havent done yet...I have tested/adjusted the temperature side of it to make sure my 4 little gliders would be okay with a CG power failure...it will come on around 80 with alot of tinkering. What is the fastest way to test the voltage part with AGS?

Testing the AGS:

Disconnect from shore power, make sure the inverter is on and AGS is enabled. I used the microwave to draw down the batteries so the AGS would come on. Since you can't run a microwave oven empty, I filled a microwave safe container (pyrex measuring cup) with water and turned on the microwave for several minutes. Keep an eye on your battery meter while you are doing this.
