Awning issue

Hi all, we are having a problem with our awning. With zero winds, it keeps retracting. We put it out and after 30-45 minutes, it retracts again. We even unplugged the wind sensor and it still came in. Getting tired of this game with the awning. Any ideas??

Hi,
When you unplug the wind sensor the control unit stays on and that is what is retracting the awning. Consider turning off the wind sensor control unit. There should be a switch on the control box.

Which awning? If it's a Dometic/A&E WeatherPRO, I'd say that's normal and don't waste your time or money on trying to fix it. To the best of my knowledge, they never got it working properly.

It was the roof sensor. They went through at least 3 generations of roof sensors and at least for our 5th Wheel trailer, even the last one didn't work. So after the last warranty "repair" (which includes replacing both the roof sensor and the control box) I gave up. It's just an electric awning now. And it "automatically" retracts only when I press the button now.

Yep, had three coaches with it, and all three never worked.

Then you really can't attach lights to the awning in-case it decides it wants to roll up...

Yes still have that coach and it's just a regular awning.

Just a little silver switch on the control unit. It turns the wind sensor on or off.

But this is for the Dometic/A&E WeatherPRO awning. Is that what you have?

I just looked up WeatherPRO control unit and they show a newer model than I have. The one they showed had a vertical line of red L.E.D.s on the left side that are supposed to display wind speed. Just to the lower right of those lights is what looks like a up/down slide switch that says "Wind" at the top and nothing on the bottom. I suspect sliding that switch down will bypass the wind sensor.

Already tried that. Think we will have to call Dometic tomorrow. Thank you!

I finally found the manual for the latest version (which is quite different than mine). I don't see any way to turn the wind sensor off from the control unit.

HOWEVER -- they do give instructions for turning the wind sensor on and off from the remote.

To turn the wind sensor OFF from the remote, press and hold the bottom two buttons at the same time for 3 seconds. These are the buttons labeled "Door -- extend/retract."

To turn the wind sensor ON from the remove, press and hold the top two buttons at the same time for 3 seconds. These are the buttons labeled "Patio -- extend/retract."

Good luck.

Thanks so much but already tried that also. Unfortunately the lights on the sensor continue to stay on, so not sure if that is really working or not. If you turn the wind sensors off. I would think the light would go off.

Never mind my last post. Hubby said he was doing in wrong. Will try your way in the morning. Thank you!
