Hi,

I just took delivery of my first MH on May 12, 2011. It's a 2002 Dutch Star 3852 and the backup camera (along with a half dozen other items) is on the fritz. When I put the trans in reverse the monitor lights up, but the pic is all static. The inspector who did the pre-buy said he tested it and that the problem is not with the monitor, but with the camera. I paid $114 for that little tidbit of info and another $114 for him to tell me a mud dauber had built a nest in the heater, but I digress. Can anyone please tell me where to get the best deal on a backup camera. Mine is a wired unit and not wireless or so I was told.

I see this forum as an invaluable asset.

Regards,

John

Hi chofujohn,
Go to logon= and follow the instructions for Coach Specific Catalog. You'll need the coach build number or the VIN.

Once you find the camera, you can determine the manufacturer and then Google to see if they are still in business or if there is another camera. If you get lost, contact Newmar customer support at 800-731-8300.

A company in Baton Rouge, LA -- RVCAMS Backup Cameras & Rear View Systems - phone 877-378-2267 has been highly recommended by some on this site.

As for the problem with mud daubers, I can recommend to purchase mud dauber screens to cover the furnace exhaust area, refrigerator vents, and water heater area. We just did that and it is a comfort knowing the little buzzards can't get in those areas now. If you are interested I can tell you where we found our mud dauber screens.

Good Luck..

I'd recommend Tim at RV Cams as a prior post stated, he's really good, will help you troubleshoot the problem and you can send him you components for evaluation if you chose.

Welcome to the forum John.
If Garys link does not work try this one that you can find in Quick Tips link.
It will require your coach build number or Vin # and give you your coach's specific information.
Same link will give you tech infor for all coach's in general.
Here is a link for different cameras.
Congrats on your new coach enjoy both it and forum.

Just a quick note. I shopped and shopped the backup camera until I finally just gave up and called Newmar. The original camera is no longer available, but there is a replacement from Atlanta DTH. Newmar priced it at $370. Not one to give in so easily I shopped the camera and went direct to http://adth.com/5-7.htm and bought it for $120 + $12 shipping. That's a big difference to me.

What I'm learning is that manufacturers and dealers are double and triple the price of Internet vendors. Thanks for the help.

Welcome the the forum Chofujohn. And you are spot on about Newmars pricing. They are REALLY proud of their parts.

Shop around as you found out.

Thanks for the welcome. Being a newbie to the motorhome world (one week) I figured if I was willing to get wet then I might as well go swimming. And to think there were those who thought I was being hasty buying a 39 footer as my first.

Regards,

John Dent
