Basement heat in 2010 Dutch Star

I have a 2010 Dutch Star 4055 with Precision Temp Hydronic heating. I have found the fan coil in the basement for heating but it doesn't turn on when either the front or rear zones or turned on.

I'm guessing there is an independent thermostat in the basement for that specific fan coil. Is this true? If so, do you know what temperature it kicks in at?

If I recall correctly the basement t-stats are set at 45 degrees.

What is your opinion on the Precision Temp; I am not impressed compared to the Oasis I had in prior 2008 Dutch STar?

This is our first unit with any type of Hydronic heating so I can't comment on others. I am very happy with the Hydronic heating and the PrecisionTemp does seem to do the job. I like that we have unlimited hot water, it's silent operation and very clean running on propane.

What I don't like is that it runs on propane and in our cold Alberta weather right now we went through a tank in 10 days whereas if we were on Diesel we would have a big ole tank to draw from. From what I understand though diesel units require more maintenance than propane because of the nature of the dirty fuel they use.

We are supplementing our interior heat with a space heater right now to save on propane, so we are paying one way or another.

We are in Alberta another 3 weeks and then will button this thing up and head to warmer climates. :-)

Don't you have heat pumps on your AC units?

There is a thermostat sensor on the heating coil in the basement. My opinion it needs to be moved because it is mounted on the metal bracket which causes it to get warm. I just moved mine a couple of inches away and screwed it on to a peice of wood

Yes I do but heat pumps are not effective when the weather gets close to freezing or below. Heat pumps are good when the weather is closer to 8-10c or higher (45-50f).

Thanks, I'll crawl in there and re-route. Everything seems to be ok but I agree with you on the mounting on a metal bracket.
