Most coaches with the wet bay heater are wired with a thermo switch that turns on and off the heater. If you follow the wires you should see a small round disc with 2 wires connected, this is the thermo switch. It looks like this
Therm O Disc Bi Metal Snap Disc Thermostat 36TX21 21190 L55 15F A0511 | eBay

To test the heater you can bypass the thermo switch and the heater should run.

To test the thermo switch hold an ice cube on the switch to cool it down. Normally the will turn on at ~38F and off at ~50F. If it is too warm outside the heater won't run.
Not on the Newmars unless they go to it in "Luxury" line, which I don't know about. Other wise it's a a switch in the wet bay and the blower fan only runs when the furnace is running.

Basement heater.

Thanks Gary.
Bought the remote thermometer today. Inside thermo set on 55.
Until I'm satisfied that the basement heater is working as you all have advertised
Think I will keep the electric heater going. Can't hurt. Will keep checking the compartment temperatures and see what happens.
Not sure if the hear has come on yet but I saw 80 in the compartment.
Just want to be very sure the basement heater is working.
Thanks each of you for all your help.
