Batteries

Should my batteries be charging when the coach is hooked to an 50 amp service?

Yes. Both house and chassis.

House batteries, yes. Should do so anyway. Converter/charger malfunctions are common.

Engine/chassis batteries in Motorhome, maybe. Some Motorhomes do not have such capability, some do, some that did not from the manufacturer may have been retrofitted to do so.

If you put a voltmeter on the batteries in question you will see a ~1 volt increase when charging vs not charging.

Short answer, Yes.

If not, you have a problem with the BIRD System. Or a battery problem.

Here is a link that will help you identify which system you have and how to troubleshoot it.

In the QT's # 3 link you will find this information for Bird System and your fusing and wiring system for coach.
As stated all your batteries will be charged from shore power, Gen or alternator when driving.
