Seeing another thread just started here reminded me that I have a question about the bay door struts on my Essex. All the bay doors are side-opening and when it was new (1 1/2 years ago) the struts cushioned the impact when a door was opened. In other words, when I opened a bay door and let it swing freely all the way, it didn't jerk when it stopped, but the gas strut gently cushioned the stop. Now, many of my bay doors swing open freely and "bang" at the end of the strut - as if the gas has leaked out. They hold the doors open OK, but don't cushion the opening.
I'm headed to Newmar tomorrow and was wondering if I should add this to my list of warranty repairs. Also, all the brackets that attach the struts to the bay doors have rusted. I took delivery of my Essex in January of 2009 and drove on salted roads on my way south. It was a week before I reached a place warm enough to rinse off the salt - thus the rust. Is this normal and should I add these to my list? I don't want to nit-pick as I have bigger issues, but this will be may last chance to have warranty issues fixed.
