Bay Star / Sport Recall
For 2018 Bay Star and Bay Star Sport owners, there is a new recall set to commence in February. The NHTSA ID is 17V797. It has to do with front side marker lights not being connected to the wiring harness.

I was just looking through old threads and found this. I found the recall on the NHTSB website.

By the way, our rig is affected.

We try hard not to drive at night so no biggie. We'll wait till Newmar sends out a fix to dealers and we'll stop by somewhere and have the work done.

Are they referring to the 3 stacked led lights on the front bottom close to the corners? If not, does anybody know what front side lights the recall is referring to? Thanks

I tested mine and the lights affected are the amber side marker lights that are part of the headlight assembly.
I'm guessing that there was an oversight when Newmar updated the front cap in 2018, including new headlight assemblies, and they didn't change the wiring harness to reflect that. Installers hooked up the headlights per normal and two funtions weren't present...the marker lights and the low beams remaining on when the high beams are triggered.
I assume Newmar is designing a fix and will send out the wiring diagram to dealers so they can fix it. Hopefully, that has been incorporated to the assembly line.

Thank you, I received the letter yesterday and I was outside trying to determine what lights they meant. I'll verify both the amber lights and low beams when I get home from work.

Wow, seen two recalls in past week. Kind of concerned. They start production on mine in May.

I wouldn't worry. A recall probably means they've fixed the issue on the assembly line. If not now, by May certainly.

Thanks Dan,
I was extremely excited at the very beginning of our buying process, but as time goes on I'm starting to have second thoughts. Dealer has been less responsive since deposit, recalls, inevitable new coach issues....

It will be fine. And there seems to be a lot of downtime between ordering and the actual build. Like Dan said these recalls should be sorted out by that time.

Waiting sucks. We had the same buyers remorse. Newmar build good coaches and even if you have issues, they do take care of you. May will be here before you know it.

Hey Group: It seems there are at least 3 recalls right now. All are fairly easy to remedy and should be done as soon as possible. Yesterday I was at the Ford dealer and had the brake issue (parts) replaced. Today I took my 2017 3113 in to the local Newmar dealer for some warranty concerns and while I was there found out about the converter bolt issue and a THIRD recall for the Kidde fire extinguisher. hope tp get it back all better!
