Better fuel mileage with 2010 dutch star 400 cummins

I getting between 6 and 6 1\2 miles per gallon. Just thought I would see if anyone was getting any better. I have not talked to a cummins dealer yet. Any ideas would be appreciated.

How fast do you drive? Do you power up hills (mountains) keeping up with auto traffic? Too many variables you left out. Our MADP with the 400ISL gets in the low 8s but I am not in a hurry. Doesn't hurt to ask a Cummins dealer.

Need to see what your torque/rpm curve looks like and find the sweet spot and at what point your coach shifts to 6th gear. Mine does it at ~63 mph. I will usually do ~65 mph and average 8.1-8.5 mpg. My coach is heavy and I pull a Jeep GC.

What are you basing the mpg calc on. I have a Silverleaf that provides trip data and real time data. I also run an annual data tracker that gives me the best data.

Better fuel mileage with 2010 dutch star 400 cummins

Krzy....... several variables at play. Also, are you adjusting for generator fuel use?
We are Fulltimers, 40 ft DS / Cat330, and we always run at max gross weight (31K Lbs) with a 3500 Lb toad. Cruise @ 63-65. Avg 7.4 over the last 5 years.

I get a solid 7.6mpg on my 450 ISM @63mph towing my CRV. (this is based on my onboard computer, I really need to do a stubby pencil method to verify it)

Headwinds are a killer! Terrain... just gotta adjust to it which includes the cruise control.

With our 400ISL over 4 years we have averaged 6.43MPG. This is via the "stubby pencil" mode of calculation. This includes things that would drag MPG down such as fuel burned by generator which we run at least 50% of the time while driving and a hand full of hours while boondocking.

We travel with about 41,000# including our toad. We typically travel at between 60 and 63 MPH and have covered a lot of different wind, hills and mountain conditions over that 4 years.

BTW, have I tracked my fuel purchases with Gas Cubby since the first day we bought it.

I'm towing a little heavier than you at around 6000 lbs, but I'm at around 6.5 mpg, miles/gallons. I drive about the same speed.
