I want to take two full size bicycles with me when I travel. I am looking for ideas on how best to do this, e.g. put them inside the back of my Toyota Highlander toad, put them on a bike rack on the back of my Highlander or put them on a rack on the back of my coach. In the latter case, what is the best way to attache the bikes to the coach? I assume it isn't practicle to put them in the basement.

Check out the Swagman "towing" bike rack at CampingWorld. They attach over/around your existing toad hitch meaning you can have bikes and toad at the same time. Pick up a bike bag at CampingWorld and you are all set.

I carry my bikes on the back of my Jeep. The main reason is that many, many times the bike trails are distant from the RV park.
Transporting them with the toad allows us to pick and choose the best trails to ride without moving the Motor home. I use the receiver type bike rack for two full sized bikes.

We carry bikes on the back of the Toad. If we don't take the Toad, we carry on the back of the MH.

As the "Dude" says, I use the Swagman Rack on the back of the coach attached to the towbar. Only problem here is the rack is made to 'swing' down so you can check your fluids etc. Well it's a more difficult job then seems (takes us two people to swing it down).

I used to carry them on the rear of the car but I always use the cover to keep the road dirt & grime out of the bikes. I was told by a police officer that with the cover on, you couldn't see the brake and directional lights on my toad, that it was dangerous and illegal.

We full time and used to carry our bikes on top of our toad via a roof rack. We always covered the seats. A roof rack always gives you complete access to your trunk. And, the bikes are out of the way in case of an accident. I did not like to see the bikes get wet and dirty. Every part was covered with road grit etc. When we replaced our toad, we bought a 2008 Scion xB so we could carry both bikes inside.

Our bikes travel on the back of the MH so that we can use the CRV hatchback while under way.The rack is in a vertical receiver on the MH and I have welded up a similar one for the CRV(Honda) for use on biking outings. It is an "L" shaped deal that goes into the car hitch receiver and presents a vertical receiver to accept the bike rack from the MH.

Like many others here, we carry our bikes on the back of the MH. We use an inexpensive vertical-hanging ladder rack from CW, and remove & cover the bikes when we're parked. Thus far, the high-mounted rack seems to keep the worst of the road schmutz off of the bikes. We also have a hitch rack on our Jeep so we can transport the bikes to other places.

We are fulltimers. I value my bicycles too much to have them out in the weather 24/7 -- I want them working well when I want to take a ride. We carry mine in a Honda Odyssey in which the rear seat will fold flat into the floor. One of my bikes will fit in the rear of the Odyssey. If I want to carry both, I have to remove one of the center row seats also. When not carrying both bicycles, the second one is in out storage unit in Alabama where we are once or twice a year.
