Just purchased a preowned Newmar. Have heard recommendations to use Bio-Clean in black and gray tanks. Is this a good idea? Also have been advised to use an additive in the diesel tank to remove algae and water buildup. Any recommendations on what to use.

I use Bio-Pak tables, avialable from Wal-mart and Camping World, in our black tank but don't use anything in our grey tank.

I use Bio-Chem in the black tank & nothing in the gray tank. I leave the gray tank open when hooked up to sewer, then close prior to using the shower & needing to dump the black tank. Then I rinse the hose out after dumping black tank with the gray tank & leave gray valve open.
Diesel fuel additive is Biocide. This is the only chemical I have found myself to be allergic to. I work in the jet engine aircraft industry & we use biocide quite frequently to clean our fuel tanks. I will break out in a serious rash & fever when exposed to fuel treated with biocide. I try to avoid jet fuel as much as possible. I guess I am telling you this to warn you to wear gloves when dealing with Biocide.

This depends a bit on how you use your rig.. When I first got my rig we summered in it and come winter parked it on our back lot and ... Well it still got used most every day but only for an hour or so.

As weather warmed we put water in it and dropped some product in the black tank, and for a few months.. That's about all.

Then as summer finally hit we dumped whatever was in the tank and went camping.

NOW: We full time, and do not use any "Tank" product,, Just water.

I find Gray generally stinks worse than black, and since I've done a few rebuilds recently on my toilet (Where I have to pull it off to replace a broken shaft and then modify the new shaft) and have one more rebuild to do (Once I can afford "Official" replacement parts) I have stuck my nose over the open pipe for quite a bit of time in the last month..

I'm very happy with the water solution on the black.

What I wish.. Is that I had a way to rinse the gray. But alas, till I can afford it, I don't.

Full timer here...
Nothing added to the black or gray tanks (no stink, no buildup, no clogs)
and
Nothing added to the fuel (no algae, no gel, no problems)
No need to....
