Rewillia, we were extremely lucky that we got the engine alarm and shutdown before any damage was done. We were extremely lucky to find two local mechanics at 8:00 PM at night that could engineer parts and hose connections to get us back on the road in 14 hours. They stuck with us through eight hours of their time to find a solution and repair our problem. We were extremely lucky that their charges for their 8 hours of work was absolutely minimal in what I thought it was going to cost me. As new Motorhome owners, we feel that our first bad experience was a little bad but not disasterous. We were extremely lucky.

wagonmaster2, we found the motorhome for sale by owner on RV Trader. We set up financing though our credit union and when the sale was finalized, my credit union wired the money to the seller's bank and deal was done. We were there to drive it away when payment was made.

That is the Bosch DEF injector going into the reactor tube in the exhaust. The engine coolant is used to keep the injector cool:

Sorry for the drama in getting your new coach home. Glad it worked out as well as it did.

Sorry Willtn, I did not get any more information from you. I think I have isolated the problem to the decompositon tube that goes to the DEF tank. I will get a more definate idenification on the part once Cummings gets back to me. They say it is their part and they are trying to locate the fitting for me.

Mister T, as near as I can remember, it was an engine high temp alarm. There was an audible alarm and a display showing engine high temperature. Before I could get it fully parked on the side of the freeway, the engine shut down.

wa8yxm, I went to Freightliner Parts dept. in Houston and finally found the part I needed and a description of the DEF system and how it works. The water is part of a heat exchanger. I don't know this for a fact, but I assume it heats the DEF when it is injected by the Doser injector. This water does come from the radiator. I will be posting more pictures and explanation later.

jharrell, you are right. I just now verified that with Freightliner and got the part I needed. I was wrong thinking the water heated the tube. I did not know it was a coolant. I assumed it heated because it came from the radiator. I am making another post with pictures describing what I found and some good information Newmar owners might want to keep in their files.

Very valuable information. All this after treatment on Diesel engines due to EPA regulations makes what was once a much simpler engine, much too complicated. It also uses much more energy to remove the sulphur from diesel fuel. So you consume more energy and vent to atmosphere in production of fuel and make certain companies that manufacture the after treatment parts wealthy. While we the consumer suffer from higher fuel prices and more complex engines![emoji15]
