Can't turn off TV

2018 DS 4018

Just turned on the overhead TV in cab, and get a faint blue screen, but no picture
  • green light at bottom is on and blinks in response to remote, but won't respond to any command
  • can't change input, or any action with remote
  • televator TV a few feet away works fine with same remote
  • now i can't even turn the TV OFF, not even by turning off coach battery and inverter
    • can't see any plug underneath or in back; can't figure out any way to unplug

So I'm stuck with a TV that won't work, but can't turn off

Any advice or ideas?

This is a common problem the Sony TVs freeze up, it needs to be reset, with front tv plug is tuff to get to, you could turn off the breaker in the 1/2 bath, I think turn the ignition to the on position may also disconnect it.

A firmware update may help, you need the tv connected to the internet to update

Your welcome, it maybe fine for along time now, I try and aim the Remote to each tv in close proximity to that tv. To avoid this happening. Also try updating firmware when you get a chance. Have a great evening.

Stuart is correct it needs a firmware update. Newmar replaced all 4 of our TV's before the TV supplier from IN updated our firmware in Gillette.

I'm not a brain surgeon (and never played one on TV) but replacing all 4 TV's didn't make any sense to me.

Once they updated the firmware no more issues unless I cycled them really fast by accident.

Only thing I couldn't get them to do was make them 4K when they did it! [emoji57][emoji57][emoji57][emoji3][emoji12][emoji41][emoji851]

I had the same thing happen on my televator tv. It had to be unplugged, breaker re-set didn't work. It's a bear to get to. Later, a different tv did the same thing, same solution. When I replace them, it won't be with Sony. Enjoy your rig!

Look directly behind the Sony name, towards driver. Pull that small black plug. It will kill the power to the tv. Passenger side is the coax.

Same problem here

I had the same issue with two of my TVs (main on televator and MBR). Updating firmware did not fix. I've been traveling for 130 days and it has happened 4 times and each time power must be disconnected completely including inverter and shore power. Imagine the main TV on and when youre getting redy or bed it wont turn off and the volume cant be changed

The plug I mentioned earlier will completely kill the power to the tv. As for main tv in televator, I lower the TV about a foot and then reach in and unplug it for about 10 seconds. Then plug it back into the electric outlet.

It is a standard 120volt outlet located on the wall like any other outlet. If necessary use a flashlight and look behind the TV after you have lowered the tv. It takes some bending the arm and using the feel for the outlet with your hand. I try to unplug the tv and stay completely still for 10 seconds and then plug it back into the wall.

Yes; I open the half bath door a little; flip the breaker; try to stay very still for 10 seconds; then flip it back on

Sorry I couldn't resist! Not trying to be snarky. Basically, I'm grateful and never surprised any more when so many people answer a question so quickly and help me solve a problem.

The circuit breaker allowed the TV to reset immediately. I'll try updating the firmware next time I'm in the coach (currently in storage; I'll be back in about a month)

Thanks again for the help
