Canyon Star 3712 Appliances

We are looking to order a Newmar Canyon Star 3712 this winter and it will have the 19.8 CF Whirlpool refrigerator and Whirlpool stacked washer and dryer. For owners that have these appliances in their motorhomes, my first question is does the washer and dryer have separate breakers? I have read where some motorhomes cannot handle the amperage of both washer & dryer operating at the same time. That would be very inconvenient. Has anyone had any problems with the single breaker setup on the washer & dryer?

Second, the owners that have the 19.8 CF Whirlpool refrigerator, are they dependable and pretty well maintenance free? Is there a choice for 110v refrigerators from Newmar?

I would like to hear from anyone that is planning on buying a Canyon Star 3712 and what options you are putting on it. There are so many things to put on these motorhomes, its scary trying to make the right decisions.

If this is your first Newmar, you will love your Canyon Star! We bought one in 2013, model 3911, and couldn't be more pleased. Whatever options you choose, enjoy the results in your travels. Most importantly, you're buying a NEWMAR and they stand behind their product!

Check this link out with people that have been ordering the 2015's and get there feed back on appliances the only appliance that was giving problems was the conv/micro in earlier coach's in 2015 so 2016 should not have the problem.
Your wash dryer are two separate units and will have there own circuit breaker in the load center but will require the 50 amp service provided in the options list.
This NEWMAR CORP sticky above will give you the info for 2016 models plus people to talk to at Newmar to build your coach.

Thanks for the reply, 007. I will look into it. Did not know the washer & dryer required 50 amp service. I am pleased to know that the washer & dryer on on separate services. Can the washer be run off the generator? The dryer will probably pull to many amps to run off the gennie.

Thanks again for your feedback.

Thanks Jim T. for the reply. We are so looking forward to purchasing the Canyon Star 3712. We have heard so many good things about Newmar and their customer support. We are going to the factory later this year and may order our new unit then. We are more than ready to hit the road.

Newmar makes great rigs, we've had two and wished we had bought a third rather than the Magna.

Our unit has separate breakers. Also we have ran them separately on 30 amp service. When connected to 50 amp service we have run both, AC etc. The EMS will shut items down when needed.

So to fully understand your reply, you were able to run the washer and dryer on 30 amp service as long as you didn't use the AC, microwave, or other high amp appliance.

If your getting the residential fridge and washer and separate dryer would require the 50 amp service.
If you only plug into a 30 amp service you could only run washer or dryer separately not both the same time plus no AC either on 30 amp, just can not run them all.
Using your Gen you could run them.
Here are your standard electrical features for 2016 CSCA

YES......... Your unit will come with a 50 amp cord. Sometimes we stay at a older or state park which has 30 amp service. You will use a adapter to connect your cord to 30 amp. The EMS system will monitor your AC's and turn the AC's down along with the water heater if it is on electric.

With good voltage, the washer uses 9 amps and the dryer 11 amps. My AC's pull about 12 - 13 amps.

What we have also done on parks with marginal voltage/ service, is run the fridge on batteries during the day by turning off the breaker to the inverter. All receptacles are also using batteries. In this state batteries ARE Not Charging. By doing this, the AC's, Washer / Dryer are the only appliances on electric. The water heater is on propane.

We usually only use the washer then the dryer when in this situation if the weather calls for AC use.

The dryer is used a lot since we dry towels from showering, whether 50 or 30 amps.

PM me if you have any other questions.

Hi Forum! DW and I just put a deposit on 2016 Canyon Star 3712 at Buffalo RV (part of the RV One chain of five dealers).

The coach has just over 600 miles on it, and save a few things noted in our quick walkaround, drove nicely for both of us.
- The dinette slide needs to be adjusted as the top was leaning into the coach when fully open;
- the driver seat electric was not working (probably a fuse);
- there was water in the front chassis bin under the driver seat which the sales guy says was caused when a powerwash was done earlier in the day and the door wasn't fully closed.
- We also noticed a mar or rub on the paint, about 3 inches across.

We have the washer-dryer prep and want to add a Whirlpool stacked washer and dryer and wonder if someone could tell us the model numbers of those units? Also, is this something we should pay the factory to install rather than a dealer in Buffalo NY?

Is an electric power cord reel easily fitted?

Also, we want to install a Winegard Road Trip T4 in-motion satellite dome and plan to subscribe to Dish for HD programming. This dome is also compatible with Bell satellite HD service in Canada from what I read about it. Anyone have comments on this?

Lastly, a solar panel or two might be a nice addition for about 60-100W, but I think I read there is a small 5W trickle charger built-in to the Canyon Star already?

If anyone has put clear, sealed plastic storage bins in the unit, I would also be interested to know which product and sizes work well.

Thanks in advance.

50A service is standard on the Canyon Star line, not an option.
