We are avidly looking to buy a 2001-2004, 38-40 ft. diesel-pusher and think we would like to buy a Newmar product. I understand what GVWR, NCC, etc. means, but I would like to get some idea of what the average net cargo carrying capacity (CCC) is for a Newmar MH.
Recently, we looked at a 40-ft. 2001 Allegro Bus with 2 slides, and according to the weight rating, the net Cargo Carrying Capacity was 2199 lbs. That is excluding four passengers at 600 lbs. water 800 lbs., propane etc. That seemed low to me for what a 40-ft. diesel MH could carry. Is that high, low or about average?
Thanks for any information.

Some thoughts...
Manufacturers based their NCC's based partially on folks that weigh 150 pounds, evidenced by your own post of 4 times 150 coming out to 600 pounds...Now I'm splitting hairs but there aren't MANY folks I know that travel with Twiggy!
I know it's somewhere to start, but it's also something to think about.
The example of some 2100 pounds NCC for the 40 footer is what I'd consider "average" in the market...
In closing....WHATEVER you decide to buy, do yourself a favor and have it weighed on ALL FOUR CORNERS not just front to back.

Larry if you go to the New Rig show-off forum there is a PDI list for MH's that you can figure the weights for a particular MH.
Use the second "If not good enough" you start with the total weight of coach.
You can also go to the Newmar web site on this forum to get specifications of latest MH's DP'S OR GAS. The CCC's are now NCC.

My 2004 Allegro Bus had a GVW of 32,000 lbs with a solid front axle and a CCC of just over 5,000 lbs. It was a 2 slide Bus. The triple slide coaches can take away another 1,000 lbs from that and the quads another 600 over that. In the 2003 model year the GVW was 1,000 lbs less so the CCC also went down. Much of this was because they went from the Michelin XRV tires to the XZE series, which increased capacity. Starting in 2005 IFS was offered, which raised the GVW up to 34,600 lbs.
We found that we could load 4,000 lbs of "stuff" into our 40DP. We travel heavy so I'd say that if you find a coach with at least 3,000 lbs CCC you should be fine. The older coaches did have less capacity so the newer the coach, the more likely you are to see higher CCC numbers. The Bus you looked at was typical for that year but if you compare it to more recent offerings it was a bit on the low side.
Be sure when you check the CCC rating that you are looking at the actual placard inside the closet. I've seen some big discrepancies between "advertised" CCC and "actual" CCC on both Tiffin and Newmar. The placard is the gospel so skip the advertising brochures when looking at weights.

Thanks for all your replies. Yes, I agree that the placard in the MH is the gospel. We just don't want to buy a diesel and be disappointed in the carrying capacity.
Thanks again,
