I just finished installing ceramic tile in our 4320 DS in place of the carpeting in the front. Upon removing the carpet I found that the factory installed tile in front of the sink/stove and top of entry steps was installed over 3/8 plywood layed over the coach floor. I figured this was to make the factory ceramic floor and the carpeting the same heighth. So, I went and installed a 3/8 plywood sub floor and on top layed my new ceramic tile. Now I have a real problem with both the slides. The passenger side slide is really scuffing over the new ceramic, both coming in and going out. The driver's side flat floor slide is having a real problem lifting to come in. Before I tore the carpeting out I looked under both slides and the rollers were not in contact with the old carpeting. And there was no indication in the carpeting that they were rolling on the carpeting. I remember that there was something about changing the rollers on the slides. Is that possible without taking the slide out? Or would anyone know the fix? I've been trying to get ahold of Newmar but the 800 number tells me to call back later. Boy, any help would sure be appreciated. Thanks.

I would keep trying to reach Newmar not sure what days maybe closed but repair was working 5 days.
Your rollers may have to be changed to smaller rubber ones because of tile you have placed, my rollers do run over carpet and show it after 6 years.
Stick with it I'm sure they will help.

My Newmar has a white Teflon or nylon roller on my off door slide. They're six of them maybe 1 inch in diameter.. They scratch the tile where they rest in transit. I think the rug rollers are black and larger diameter.

A friend of mine, Tony, wanted marble in his bath area (otherwise nicely appointed Fleetwood coach) that came w/vinyl. He bought the tile and had his tile guy lay it. Tony sold the coach to a friend. While we were all at Quartzite, the friend stopped by and said:
"Hey Tony, I have a problem w/the combo washer/dryer. How do I get it out of that closet in the bath area?"
Tony turned white.
The cure may be to relay the whole floor, or put carpet back at the slide only. Country Coach told me they needed a carpet strip under the operable slide area. Western RV tiled our 06 coach front to back, but there were problems with the lay-flat "chain" slide (goes out then dips down to form a flush floor) in the living room, and with a non-flush-floor slide bouncing enough to crack a tile where it hit. Gotta study the interference to determine precisely. If Newmar says they have a solution, I'd take that as a preliminary direction.

Thanks for the replies. I finally did get on the phone with Jeff in the service department. Explained the problem and he did say I would have to change the rollers as the carpet rollers are a larger diameter than the ceramic rollers. Ordered all seven I have to change ($ouch) and figured that if I pull the slides in 3/4 of the way and lift by inflating wheel barrow tubes under them it won't be too hard. Jeff told me the way that Newmar does it and I'm not going to do it that way. If I run into any more problems I'll be back for more help. Thanks again.

I was considering changing the laminate flooring in our 05 dsdp to tile, newmar service bid the job 12k. Thought about tackling it myself not sure about access to the under side of the slide and removing the old flooring and the need to change rollers.

Before I tackled the ceramic tile job, I talked with a few people. The general conclusion was that getting the old carpet out was the worst part of the project. Probably would be the same with the old laminate. That said, I haven't found the easiest step yet! Building a 3/8" subfloor and then cutting ceramic tile around the slide out ramps and by the pedestal seats was challenging. Then raising the metal ramps for the rollers to lift on (driver's side flat floor) took a little thinking. Now it's changing the rollers after I receive them. Looking underneath the slides, it looks as if this will be the easiest. (Famous last words) All in all, I would probably tackle this again. I've got less than a thousand dollars into the whole thing and it sure does look good and improves the coach. But I would NEVER do this for anyone else!

We noticed this issue when we took our carpet out 05 KS. We put a trim piece around the area with the subfloor. Doesn't look like factory, but it doesn't look bad either, just a little different than the rest. Used a laminate wood-look reducer we bought at Lowe's.

Well, wouldn't y'all know it? Got the new rollers from Newmar, they are smaller diameter, but can't change them yet. The DW completely decorated for Christmas and there is no way that I am going to mess that up by closing and opening the slides. Sooooo, I guess that it'll be next year before I find out how hard these rollers are to change. Until then, "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year " to all.
