CAT Genset exhaust
New to us, (1st time RVERS), 04 MADP 4017. CAT genset exhaust seems loud a has a ‘vortex’ looking device on the end of exhaust pipe which makes a swooshing sound. Annoying and loud.
Anyone have experience/ideas on how to quiet this CAT down a bit?

Are you sure you have a "cat" generator, those 4017"s came with a diesel onan 7.5 as standard and a power tech 8.0 as an optional generator

That "vortex" looking extension could be an adapter for a Gen-Turi exhaust system...

It’s branded as a CAT( it’s CAT yellow with Logo). I have read that CAT subbed out these smaller units to Perkins for Diesel engine and Powertech for generator.
I don’t have any direct knowledge of who built the generator.

Possibly, I’ll get a picture and see if I can figure out how to post it.

New to me as well and thought all the diesels were Onan Cummings with the kuboto engine.
Even though I'm a CAT man, I must say that our quiet diesel is indeed pretty quiet.
Should be something you can do about it, so start with calling CAT for what they might have.

Good idea, I will do some research.
This unit is definitely louder than others I have heard, especially the Oman units.
Ours doesn’t slide out so access is poor, haven’t had time for a good look at the system from manifold out.

Genset exhaust tip
Found the source of my funky exhaust note coming from the genset
The tip has a screen in it that was 75% restricted, removed it and added chrome tip.
Will upload pic when I figure out how!

That chrome tip may interfere with the GenTuri mount. If you don’t yet have one you should get one. Not only diverts exhaust gasses upward and away from neighbors (and your own) windows, also moves a substantial amount of sound up and out of earshot as well.
Good Luck.[emoji106]
