I have noticed in my search for a Newmar Ventana coach that in 06 the platform was Freightliner with a CAT C7 330 hp engine and in 07 it was Spartan with a Cummins ISC 330 hp engine. Are there clear advantages to one over the other. It seems Newmar has switched to and is staying with the Spartan/Cummins combination.

Cummins ISC is larger displacement which yields more torque. I think that CAT engines suffered loss of performance with their ACERT smog technology more than Cummins did with their smog EGR, VAG technology of the time. More so with the C9 and C13 engines, but the ISC would be my choice vs. the C7.

We have a CAT in our Freightliner puller. The way I thought about it, was that there are a LOT of construction vehicles out there that have CAT engines in them, which are pushing those engines more then I will ever pulling around a coach and they last a long time in the worst case scenarios. We haven't had any issues with ours yet and at this point get another CAT.

Cat vs Cunmmins, I had a 06 ventanna 36 with cat & frgtlnr combo. Traded in for 07 ventanna 3933 with spartan c 330 cummins>I was leary of the 330 cummins on heavier coach. But the cummins has better pick up than the cat on smaller coach. Have been very pleased with this combo Tarpon Tiger

I think the greatest advantage to the Cummins is that Cat will no longer be making engines for RVs, due to the new federal anti-pollution regulations.
