We have a '99 dutch star on a Frieghtliner chassis and 300HP caterpillar.
The hydralic pump is driven off the air compressor pump thru a cast
coupling which comes from caterpillar, according to a cat rep. this coupling developed a crack laterally accross the top causing an engine
oil leak that was a bear to locate, but finally was found by super cleaning,
then patiently running the engine for about 30 minutes.
My problem is that caterpillar refuses to sell this part individually, it only comes on the air compressor for about $1500 .
This casting is approximately 2 inches thick, 4 inches in diameter, with a 2inch hole in the center and flanged with 4 holes at one end and 2 holes
on the oppisite side.
Do any of you know of this problem in the past, and if so, what remedy
there might be.

I had a friend that had the same problem. Not only did have need to purchase the entire compressor, but it was back ordered for 2 months. I would try salvage yards.

This must be a failure that has happened to others.

I just went through a pump replacement while on vacation in Florida. Replaced hose, pump and air filter. Expensive proposition $2400, but I am back home in New England. All work was done by Catapillar of Orlando. PS: this took place 4 days ago.
