Ceiling anchor for front cabinets

I just finished rebuilding my old TV cabinet to cut it down for a flat screen TV. On the old metal cabinet, there were four screws going up into the ceiling through support tabs on both sides. On my new wood replacement, I started the install process, but any screw that I put through the top of the cabinet into the ceiling for support finds nothing to bite into. I am going back up into the same screw line used by Newmar to begin with...I thought that there would be something substantial there to screw into. At this point, I am stopped cold because the screws into the side shelves will not be enough to hold it up and in place. I feel kinda stupid because I thought that I was going right back into the old install location. I have used 2.5 inch screws so far. Is it possible that I just need longer screws?

How long were the original screws? and what size? (diameter)

Have you tried just the screw in the hole that was left in the ceiling from the original screws?

Found the metal studs that run up there! Just needed a longer screw as I had increased the thickness of the top of the cabinet with wood. Drilled new pilot holes and the bit found it just a hair out of reach of my 2.5 inch screws. Thanks!
