I am considering placing tile on the wall around the vanity.I thought about applying the mastic directly over the exsisting wall paper.
Any thoughts or expierience.

I have a 2005 MH that had the typical mirrors above the stove and sink. I liked the look of the newer models with the faux tile (composite). I took the mirrors off and used the mastic and mounted stone tiles and then grouted with flexible grout. That was 6 months ago and I have only driven the MH about 6 times and for about 1,000 miles total and it is holding up fine with no cracks or other problems. I like it and would do it again.
Only thing to be careful of, is if the tiles have to go over a joint on the wall where there is a joiner strip. The strip sticks out about 3/16 inch. I was going from the counter back splash to the bottom of the cabinets, so I just feathered the mastic on either side of the strip. It worked out fine and you can not tell it is there. If you do have a joint, you could just cut out the joiner piece, but I was worried that without the piece in place, the two pieces of wallboard on either side of the joint would flex and the grout or tile could crack or come loose.

Welcome CHUCK05DSDP to the Newmar forum and irv2.
As long as wall paper is glued to wall board should not be a problem. Have thought of doing myself. Always looking for changes from original.
Enjoy the forums and do post often.

They did a bad job of applying the 4" strip of wallpaper around my 1/2 bath.. Any ideas? would tile work for one row? Just wondering..VACMAN

i would strip the paper off first. The mastic might react to the paper and it will release from the luan ply behind.

If thats the case fasten a cement wallboard to metal studs and cement tile to that, studs are 16" on center. Observe outside side wall in morning may see outline of studs on outside surface of wall.

Vacman, I would be concerned about the tile mid wall. When I did my kitchen, the bottom tiles were supported by the back splash. You may be able to remove the existing wallpaper due to the fact that the wall covering underneath the wallpaper is vinyl. Try a test in an inconspicuous location. apply warm wet towels for a few minutes and see if it will bubble or lift up. If it does, you could just replace it.

Some have replaced paper border with a Corian back splash around sink perimeter 1/2" by what ever height you wish.
