Newmar is now conducting a tour of the chassis building alone with the rest of the tour at the factory. This was just started 3 weeks ago according to Darla. I really enjoyed getting to see this area.
If you go on the afternoon tour, and all the work is complete in the chassis building, then the tour will be conducted on the floor. If they are still working, then they have a visitors overlook on the 2nd floor that provides a very nice view.
They have 3 lines where they begin. One for DP, another for gas and the last for 5th wheelers. Once the frame is complete they all move to another area of the building on the same line where they start adding all the below floor components and in some cases they were doing some above the floor wood framing on a DP, above the motor. This is a really cool addition to the tour and everyone was excited to get to see this building.
According to Darla, the KS and MA are selling the best of the DP line. X-Aire was also selling well. I saw several Grand Stars on the lots and being built. They are making 10 units/day. I saw several King Aires on the lots and 1-2 in production, only saw one Essex. Did see a new LADB that was 99% complete.

Hi Ben, I guess you mean "chassis add-on build", as the chassis's themselves are built at Spartan in Charlotte Michigan or related Spartan plant. I realize Newmar has a fair amount also to prep the chassis for the production line like mount the batteries and trays, steering refit, etc.

Peter, you are correct. Except they do build the 5th wheeler chassis there if I understood Darla correctly. Its a big building with a lot going on at the same time. They moved into it about 3 years ago. Darla showed us the original building, this one must be 10 times or more in size.
Also, Darla loads everyone up on an old school bus and takes you to the chassis building, from there you go to the finishing production building.

One other thing. While in the parts store in the service building, a state director was talking loudly about the NKK doing some kind of event that would allow us to get a more detail tour at the factory.
Anyone hear anything about this?
