While on the way to the Newmar factory last year, the engine in our MH started skipping now and then, and the check engine light would come on for a few miles, then go off.

After about 300 miles, we were planning on meeting another couple for the night, but just before meeting them, the engine started running very poorly and the check engine light came on and would not go off. Not only that, but the generator almost did not start, but finally it did and we ran it most of the night.

The next morning (Sunday), our MH wouldn't start. We called the road service to tow us to the nearest Cummins facility, and they said they wouldn't be able to get to us for two hours.

While plundering around looking for something that could be causing the problem, I discovered the fuel tank was pulling a vacuum. When I loosened a fuel cap and released the vacuum from the fuel tank, the engine started and the check engine light went off.

I cancelled the road service call and continued our trip to Nappanee with a fuel cap loosened.

When we arrived at the factory and they were writing up our repair order, I told them about the problem and the vacuum on the fuel tank.

When they checked it out, you'll never guess what they found. They found that dirt-daubers had built a nest in the fuel tank vent line.

Maybe this info could help someone else with a similiar problem.
