Amber check engine light

[Moderator Edit - two previous threads on this same subject have been merged into this one.]

Was traveling today from eureka springs Arkansas to Springfield Missouri. Was in the mountains around Branson. My check engine light came on 4 or 5 times. Went right back off as soon as I let off the pedal. Was climbing (up grade) and had the pedal to the floor every time it occurred. Anyone have a explanation? I don't know the 1st thing about diesels. 08 MADP. Trying to learn.

When was the last time you changed your fuel filters. It sounds like it might be starving for fuel under wide open throttle (WOT).

I bought this coach in February from nirvc Dallas. Said everything had been changed maintenance wise. Don't know if they actually changed fuel filter.

What was your temperature reading? Going up a grade, it's best to downshift rather than just floor it. A diesel has a great deal of torque, but it is in a narrow range of RPMs. Gas engines usually get more torque and HP at higher RPMs, diesel engines lose torque at higher RPMs and 'flatten out.' You didn't mention what engine you have, but I'd look up the hp and torque curve for that engine. Often putting the pedal to the floor will trigger a downshift, I'm wondering if you have an issue in that area. Going up a grade, pay attention to RPM and temperature gauges, ignore the MPH.

Sounds like what Don suggested. Might change the fuel filters, you are new to diesels if you get contaminated fuel or algae in your fuel it could clog your filters a lot of guys keep an extra set of fuel filters Incase they get a bad fuel. I know that area that you traveled and there are some steep and long pulls. I would change the filters and monitor it.

Temp appeared to be fine checked all gauges when it was happening. Can't remember exactly what it was but it wasn't much higher than normal if at all. Perhaps I should have down shifted instead of letting it do it automatically.

I had the same issue recently in the London Aire we purchased in February. It turns out that it was quite low on engine coolant. Not sure if the fault was with the manufacturer or the dealership, but that was the case.

Check for codes. There should still be one in memory.

It’s definitely a special kind. Can’t recall the brand or the description for it. I believe you can find it in Newgle.

If the coolant aux reservoir is just a bit low, when you are on an incline the fluid will pool away from the sensor causing the light to blink as the fluid sloshes around. Make sure it's filled to the visible level on the tank.
