I don't know about you, but I found it strange to get a postcard from Newmar telling me that if I had problems with my outside plastic handle I could call them and purchase a chrome replacement.

Yea they're happy to sell you a chrome handle for around $100.00 to fix their problem.

I was going to order a replacement handle earlier this year (wanted a new plastic one), but they are no longer available. They sent me one free. Apparently 2005 was the earliest model that still qualified for the free replacement.

You can get a replacement "plastic" handle from RVSurplus.com Replaced mine and the replacement is doing well. Just don't pull on it hard. It may last longer without the Newmar logo cut into it. RV Surplus

Replaced mine a couple of years ago with another "plastic" one. Seems to be doing OK. The replacement doesn't have the Newmar logo cut into it, so may last longer. I just don't pull on it too hard. Link RV Surplus

Ours began cracking after 2 years & I told Newmar it was a safety issue. Free replacement with the chrome one. Thanks Newmar.

The strange thing is that I have never had an issue with the plastic handle, don't use it, and have never asked Newmar for a new one. Did everyone get this card?

I got the card. I'm on my 2nd handle and I can see internal crazing so it most likely will break as that was the case on the 1st unit. I don't use it for entering the coach but seems that visitors do.

Mine broke off in my hand one day while entering the coach. Wound up on my back. Ordered a replacement and got the whole works which did not align with the existing supports. New supports required new holes so I returned it and obtained a stainless steel hollow pipe and made the cuts necessary to fit in the old plastic supports. It doesn't light up of course but at least I can depend on it. If I really wanted to dres it up I could take it to a machine shop and have them engrave "NEWMAR" in it then paint the indent black. Maybe someday, who knows.

I got the card and I had already ordered the chrome handle from Newmar a year ago. Still in box. Ordered plastic from RV Surplus. Newmar's chrome handle is a joke. Don't fit old holes. Buy it somewhere else. .I think the notice is a liability issue.

Hmm.. we got the card but ours is still the original handle and no cracking or crazing on it. I have no reason to replace it or even think about it as of yet.

And there's the reason for the card!! I think that's happened more than once and Newmar is concerned about getting sued over injuries!!
