Cleaning/Disinfecting Fresh Water Tank

I'm sure there is a very simple answer but how do I get bleach in my fresh water tank to disinfect, where is the manual water fill?? Thanks

1) Syphon from bucket with winterizing pick up tube
2) Syphon with a garden hose syphon attachment this will also clean the hose like this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...ZAXPD93W&psc=1
3) pour it in the gravity fill
4) pour it in the hose
5) put it in the empty filter housing

I siphon mine in using the winterizing hose, and selecting the "fill tank" mode. NOTE: If you can't bypass the inline filter, or remove it during this process, the bleach will be filtered out before it gets to the tank.

I have also, in the past poured some bleach into the fill hose and then attaching it to the input and selecting "tank fill". The above caution also applies to this method as all water goes through the filter.

On my coach there is not gravity feed. That would be the simplest method but does not apply in my case.

I have installed a simple filter bypass in my system that looks like this:

1. Remove the filter element from the canister.
2. Add the proper quantity of bleach to the canister and reattach. 3. Open valve to fill the fresh tank.

Fresh Tank Cleaning

I like putting it in the water hose because your water hose also gets cleaned out (sanitized) at the same time. Instead of bleach, I use "pool shocker" chemicals (available at Wal-Mart). They only have to stay in the fresh water tank for 15-30 minutes and rinse out a lot easier than bleach (in my experience).

I've heard of that and I've been told it removes the bleach taste...

How much pool shocker is used, Liquid or pellets?

It comes in powder too. I don't think I would use tablets. I would use what it recommends on the container. A little goes a long way in my spa...

Purogene

As an alternative to bleach or pool shocker, consider Purogene, a bio-cide first used in airplane water tanks.

It is pricey, but it also helps to eliminate bio-film in your water tank.

Here's info on Purogene from the RV Water Filter Store:

I really hate dealing with the bleach smell after sanitizing, so I ordered some Purogene to try.

Now, given that the stuff is activated with acid, what does it do to the good bacteria in your stomach? I donít drink the water from my RV, but this might be something to consider.

I just ordered Purogene last week (direct is much cheaper than RV Water Filter store fyi) since our coach is sitting in storage for a few weeks.

Citric acid is contained in all kinds of foods that we eat daily and considering the dilution ratio, I don't think (IMHO) it would negatively impact stomach bacteria, especially compared to say antibiotics. You can also activate with lemon juice if the citric acid is a concern.

As I interpreted the video, the Purogene is what kills the bacteria when activated with acid. So, does it activate in our stomach acid and kill our bacteria?

If you drank it straight out of the bottle -- so don't do that.
