Cleaning The Regen System
Cummins is recommending I clean the regen system, the catalyst and something else. I know it has never been done, have 37,000 miles and 10 years old this month. They say could be 6-10 hours labor ,so not cheap! Has anyone else done this? Is it absolutely necessary? I do not have def.

Cummins Regen
Here is a Link https://cumminsengines.com/cummins-particulate-filter. This may help you.
I would think that the engine does not have enough hours on it to do an ash cleaning service. Are you having problems, loss of power, pour mileage or engine check lights?
Happy Motoring.

Only needed if you're rig is doing a lot of regens while driving or it says to do a manual regen.
Mine never showed it needed a manual regen but was doing a LOT of automatic ones while driving. Turns out my DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) was cracked and had to be replaced. Cost of the part was about $3,500 and not sure about the labor as it was done during the top end rebuild.

No, runs fine as far as i can tell. no loss of power, don't do dusty driving. I have put on 17,000 miles in the last 3 and 1/2 years as the second owner and the regen light has come on twice that i can remember, maybe 3 times.

Dusty driving has no bearing on the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter). The DPF catches soot produced by the engine and burns it during the regen. Diesel fuel is injected and ignited during the regen, usually automatic but sometimes under heavy in town use a manual regen is needed. I'm lucky in that it has a switch on the dash to do a manual regen, a lot don't and you have to take it in to the shop.

David, mine will say "high exhaust temperature" on the dash. stays on for an hour or two. Didn't know what it was till tech at Cummins told me. Is the regen based on a sensor or just so many hours of run time?

Thanks Don,
"The Cummins Particulate Filter is service-free up to 5,000 hours when low ash oil is used and the base engine is properly maintained. At that point, ash cleaning is required. "
If my coach has averaged 60 MPH throughout its life than my engine has only 616 hours on it.

Do it and make sure they update the ECM with the latest upgrades. It cost about $5K for a replacement. Cleaning one is around 1K. They take them out and cook them clean some how. If they clog they will crack. This is a very common problem and based on the dumpster full of them I can attest to it.
My extended warranty would not cover it either. They were at the beginning stages of the EPA stuff so there have been some improvements. They will be able to tell how much idle time you have which is bad for these. Doing the math you will be surprised how high your idle time can be versus highway running.
There are plenty of previous posts. Use the little Google search box above and do some research.

I must have missed something . . . your signature says you have a 2008 Ventana which I wasn't aware even had a DPF or regen system? Did you get a new coach and your signature is old?

DPF was required by the 2007 diesel exhaust emission standards. 2008 coaches except the early ones which were built with 2006 engines were equipped with DPF. DEF injection in addition to DPF was first required in 2011.

Tom my coach was built in May 2007 with the 350HP and DPF. I figure it was an early early 2008.
