We have a new 2012 Baystar and not had much of a chance to use it yet -- but hopefully off to California next week. Today when we tried to start it (been in storage about 3 weeks but have started it once or twice in that time with no problems before today) we had a dead battery and required Battery Boost to get it going. After that, when we let it idle for about l5 minutes, we noticed a "click" in the engine about every 30 - 45 seconds. We drove it around the block and no problem or clicking then but when we let it idle again, the click came back. We do not think we had this before as we are sure we would have noticed so wondering if it has something to do with using the Battery Boost or if it is just coincidental. Anyone have any clues? We are not sure if it is the start of something serious and if we should check it out before we hit the road next week. Also surprised that the battery was dead as it has not been in storage that long. We had the chasis battery shut off but this model has no shut off for the engine. Thanks to anyone who can give us a clue.

Sounds like it could be the air conditioner clutch engaging and disengaging.....

It could be a relay in the charging circuit maybe? Do you see the voltmeter jump when you hear the click?

Think we got it partially figured out -- it is in the heating panel -- could be it is the AC clutch engaging and disengaging as someone suggested (we are not that mechanical so not sure!) -- by turning off everything on the heating panel it does not occur but when we turn it back on and put it on Defrost or AC it occurs -- but strangely not as frequently as yesterday. Anyway I think we are just relieved it is nothing serious and we will just play with it and watch it. Thanks to this forum as it made us go there this morning and made us think it is in the heating panel.

Are you certain that there is not a chassis cut off switch in the engine compartment?
Mine is on the lower right side front...not visible without peering over the edge of the opening.

Your defrost setting will also activate the ac compressor....

Maybe your lifters on V-10 engine need more mileage for breakin to seat them.

Your unit is too new to require the use of the battery boost so soon. I did the same thing so let me suggest that you make sure you turn off the Refrigerator when not in use and also turn off the Carbon Monoxide detector and radio when not is use. Some of these things will be a drain on the house battery even when not in use. Make sure you turn off the use and store switch and then check to make sure the master light switch for the lights in the bays is in the off position. Your unit should have a solar panel on the roof that keeps the chassis battery charged when not in use. Congratulations on you new motor home. I suggest that you review the experiences of others on this site. Most of the problems I had with my unit can be attributed to operator error. Good luck and keep us in mind in your travels. We always want to hear about favorite campgrounds and experiences with roads and equipment. I envy you being so close to the best places to camp in the west.
