After owning a motor home with black that was attractive but difficult to keep clean, we decided to order special colors with Newmar Desert Gold as the base color. After six months, I am extremely pleased. This color does not show dirt or paint swirls, especially compared to darker colors. I am attaching a couple of photos.

Our unit has 3 silver and 1 white colors on it and frankly even when it's dirty it doesn't look dirty, also it's proven that light colors reflect more sun heat then dark colors. While everyone has no issues keeping cool when running 2 A/C units, if you ever have to be on 30AMP and can only run 1 A/C you'll be glad you have a lighter color.

I would not be much concerned about interior heat. Get a third air conditioner as it will ensure not a problem.

Showing dirt and grime may be a consideration for some darker colors.

I too love the dark colors. If I could eliminate being in extreme heat that's the way I would go. Our plans are to half time down the road and I would certainly find cooler summer weather as priority one.

Having had 5 coaches, I can say without hesitation that I would stick to the lighter colors. They don't show dirt as readily as the darker colors & they are cooler when in hot climates. Our current coach is a 2014 MADP with a 2012 Essex color scheme (Fenwick) which Newmar will do in the luxury coach models as long as the current model year graphics aren't changed. I had to sign off on the color scheme & made a few switches of colors in given area from what Newmar submitted.

Copyright on graphics???

Interesting conversation. DW and I like the look of lighter colors. Combine that with being in the Florida heat and sunshine and lighter colors should be practical as well. For many years our cars and SUV's were white for this reason. Now, white is not as popular (it does show dirt); our vehicles are silver (seems to hide dirt better). So, a light-colored motorhome makes sense to us.

I am learning, from previous posts, that Newmar will use paint colors from different years, but not graphic patterns. I am guessing that someone who keeps up with the looks of these can identify the year just from the graphics.

This got me thinking. We are considering acquiring an "older" DSDP, 2000-2006. If the rig needed to be painted, what graphics pattern could we use? For example, a 2000 DSDP has very little in the way of curves in the pattern. We could conceivably paint it to look like a 2010 or 2017. Sure, the body might not match, but the paint and patterns could.

Does Newmar have any copyrights on these patterns?

You are not limited by the graphics unless you have it done by Newmar- which will be at a higher cost during the 8 busy months of the year. You'll probably be looking at someone like Precision RV painting in Bremen IN. or someone in Elkhart IN. to do the repaint job for you. Depending on how deep your pockets are there is vertically no limit to the graphics & colors you can get. One thing I would definitely be sure to have done is a miniumn of 2 clear coats (I prefer 3 coats) with buffing in between each coat. This will give the finish a deeper luster & shine.

Good luck & Happy Trails
