Columbia River Recommendations?
Booked into Sandy River RV in Troutdale, Or. for 4 days to see the Columbia River area the last of Aug. I am second guessing my choice of RV parks and wonder if someone has a better recommendation on a pace to stay to see the area. Will be coming in from the east on I-84. Thanks, Bill

You should consider Columbia Riverfront RV Park in Woodland, Washington. It is about 2 miles West of Interstate 5 at exit 22 (so 22 miles north of the Oregon border) and is right on the Columbia River. Google their website for everything you need to know. We stay there often and have never had a single bad experience. They are very popular so reservations may be hard to come by on short notice this time of the year. Good luck!

We didn’t stay at Sandy River It (but stayed nearby) the last time we were in the area. We drove by it many times. It and looked fine to us. It has easy access to I-84. Plenty of grocery stores and restaurants nearby. Kind of centrally located (Bonneville Dam, Mt Hood, and Hood River to the East, Portland and Astoria to the West).
Why are you having second thoughts?

"See the Columbia River area" is a pretty general statement. The river runs from Astoria, Oregon, on the coast to well up into Northeastern Washington...Canada, if you include the headwaters. That's a lot of ground to cover!
If you want to stay in the Troutdale area, then what you have booked is probably about as good as anything. On the other hand, if you want to see the major hydroelectric dams on the river, you have to go upriver a bit. If you want to see the river mouth and a lot of ocean-going ships, then down by Astoria (a neat little town all on its own), the Portland area or Longview, Washington, area are your main choices. The list goes on: upriver wine country, wind surfing in the Gorge, tracing the route of Lewis and Clark, Native American fishing sites, etc.
What is it that you are most interested in. IMHO, just seeing the river is a 5-minute experience; one big river looks pretty much like the next. Just a lot of water.

We were there two weeks ago and stayed two nights at Sandy River and LOVED it. Beautiful little RV park and located about 75 yards from the beginning of the Columbia River Scenic Highway. And Troutdale is a cool little town with nice bars, restaurants and shops.

Yes the Columbia is big. In the summer, We live on Lake FDR 40 miles above Grand Coulee Dam and 75 from the Canadian border, as the crow flies.
The Lake is ~150 miles long.

Come on up "the water is fine"!

Been to Sandy River a couple of times and enjoyed it. Troutdale is a cool little town and Portland is a short drive away. Not a bad choice at all.

If 2 lane roads & narrow tunnels do not bother you, run the gorge on the Washington side..( Cross the river at Biggs Junction Oregon and follow WA-14 west to Camas WA, then back to Oregon on I-205 )
There are a lot of wide spot pull off's and a few small RV parks to enjoy..
And take a day trip to Mt Hood & Timberline Lodge ....Go play in the snow!!!
Just beware that the wildfire season is upon us,,, so NO campfires or open flame BBQ's or grills allowed.. AND NO DAMN FIREWORKS!!!!

Thanks for all the answers, after reading your responses I feel better abut my choice. As I said we will be there for 4 days and then 3 days in Woodland, Wa. at Columbia Riverfront RV. These will be our base camp to explore the area. Bill
