Concerned about power of 2017 Dutch Star 4369

Taking delivery tomorrow of a 2017 Dutch Star 4369. My last coach had a Detroit diesel 60 series engine. Lots of power. I know the 4369 has a smaller engine. I am concerned about power. Took it out for a test drive and was somewhat disappointed with the ability to move away from a stop sign and the acceleration at highway speed.
Will this get better as engine breaks in or what i see is what i got?

There is absolutely no comparison between a Detroit Series 60 and a Cummins ISL 450 HP For me, it was fine as my last coach had a 400 HP ISL.

As time goes by, it will accelerate better but not by much.

You said it, what you see is what you get. Or in this case, what you get is what you get!!!

Oh I think performance and efficiency probably increases some minuscule amount after broken in. I have 11K now and I haven't noticed an improvement. That 13L 1550 torque likely set the bar higher than the 8.9L ISL can reach.

I actually find the ISL 450 in my American Coach has more "git-up-n-go" than the Series 60 in my old mans Newell. His will climb a hill better though.

a ISL 9l 450 HP in a unit that big in my opinion is borderline ;;I wish the isx was available when we get into the 43 ft tag axle diesel pushers
one of the biggest reasons I never went with a 43 tag unit and kept to a 40ft non tag ;; the 425 ISL in mine is borderline. My buddys 2009 43 tag 425ISL is sad

My ISL was so weak except in flat lands I put a 650 HP in my Dutchstar.

While at Newmar I bought a King Air 600 HP decal. I cut the 6 off and replaced it for the 4 on my coach and now I have 650 HP. What a difference!!!

I did it for a conversation incentive. You would not believe how many Newmar owners stop by and ask how I got a 650 HP Dutchstar. My usual answer is "You mean you did not get that option, it cost very little more"

We were in Lake Tahoe (7,000) feet and a guy from Florida came in with Mountain Aire with the 450 HP/1250 torque ISL and said he was down to 25 MPH on a couple grades coming into Tahoe and was surprised with that poor performance. If you are back east and don't do a lot of mountain driving the ISL a 8.9 Liters will be OK. In 2016 Newmar put the 12 liter ISX in the Mountain Aire with 500HP but 1650 torque. Mountain Aire are little heavier then your Dutch Star but for us on the west coast and doing a lot mountain travel I too would be concerned about performance.

There have been other threads on this same subject and some think, as I would, that the DSDP's have outgrown the ISL and need at least the ISX12. But that would add a bunch to the cost since that would also require the 4000MH trans.

My guess is your test drive was in an empty MH. Will it get better when loaded for use?

Know how you feel. We originally took test drive in a 2015 37' Dutch Star and was pleased with the power of the engine. But due to interior room limitations we decided to upsize to a 40' but never test drove a 40' not realizing how detrimental to power the extra length and the tag axle would have. After taking possession the first mountain pass we started up I kept checking to see if my left foot was somehow riding the brake. And the fuel mileage is atrocious.

There are plenty aftermarket tunes available for diesel engines. For my Ram 6.7 is tunable. Whether or not there are tunes for the ISL motors is my question. There should be somewhere

Problem is that the ISL 450 is already at the max for the 3000 MH trans anything more takes the 4000 MH.
