Conflicting screen door latches

2019 Ventana 3709

My screen door latches to the main door AND to the main door frame with the same device. Independently, each condition works ok. But when you close the main door both latches engage. The latches are in conflict with each other. When you try to open the main door the weaker of the latches lets go (main door) and you open it - screen door stays closed. This happens only by forcing one latch out of engagement. It has never felt smooth or positive and now I know why!
Is anyone else aware of this, or is my situation unique?

I have removed the latch shoe from the door frame before it destroys itself.
Now the screen door stays with main door until you unlatch it. The screen door has no latch to the main door frame but mostly stays closed.

Your coach is much newer than ours, but if yours has a similar PTL entry door set, then you probably need to adjust the screen door's latch a bit. It's adjustable. Loosen the screws on the door frame and you can move the latch around. Then re-tighten.

Unfortunately I don't know which way you should adjust yours. So just try different adjustments until it works correctly.

I recommend you do this while INSIDE the coach, so you don't accidentally lock yourself out. And so you can see what the latch is doing as you slowly and carefully close the doors.

Thankyou for your response. So, by adjusting the latch you are reducing the engagement such that it releases with less force and minimizing the potential damage or lock-up (or lock out!). It seems that this method has been used for some time. Rather a tacky approach to a simple routine (just my view). Thanks again.
