Considering buying a 2014 Jeep Wrangler unlimited
Hi everyone,
I need some help understanding what braking system I need to tow a 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited behind my 2015 DSDP 4 down.
I currently am towing my wife's Buick Enclave and we are looking at a used 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited.
I currently have a Blue Ox tow package towing 4 down SMI braking system tied into Coach Brakes and then to Enclave.
The Jeep dealer told I won't need that as you simple plug lights up and that ties into Jeep electronic braking system much like towing a trailer with electronic brakes, seems to simple.
That Fact or Fiction
Thanks

I'd ask the dealer to show you that in the manual???
Electronic brakes on a Jeep???
I have to guess he's talking about brake lights NOT braking
Why not move the SIM system to the Jeep or do you want the ability to tie either?
If so I think you buy a second tow vehicle system from SMI...if not advertised I would call them and inquire...would think they would do it for a lot less than the full system.

Dave,
You can keep the SMI on the coach and install M&G on the Jeep. The Jeep end of the M&G system is cheaper than the SMI and a lot less work to install. I have an M&G system on my rig but know of others who have combined the two and it works well.

I have a 2013 Jeep Wrangler and have the Blue Ox Patriot system. I also tow a 2014 Ford F-150 at times. I have the M&G system on it and I should have put it on the Jeep. It's a much better system IMO.
I'm towing with a2017 Ventanna LE 4037.

FLSteve did a great writeup of the Mopar towed vehicle wiring harness. Look for that. He will save you a lot of time.
SMI will sell you just the oart you need for your vehicle...I would stick with SMI.

I have a 2017 wrangler and used this cool tech wiring system with SMI braking system. The light kit took 25 minutes tops even fishing it thru the frame rail. Great product, zero issues.

My friend purchased a 4 door Jeep to tow behind his Super C. He told me yesterday that is by far the most uncomfortable vehicle he's ever owned. After riding with him, I'd tend to agree!!. Make sure you test drive it for a few days!!

Good choice on the M&G. I did the same. I did install the smaller SMI fitting on the Jeep instead of using the fitting M&G supplied. It is a cleaner look and keeps both my vehicles consistent.

I have the M&G on my 2010 Rubicon. I had Freightliner tap the brake line and put an outlet on the trailer hitch.
On my next coach I will have the SMI setup on the coach as it has a safety feature.
Electronic brakes on the jeep? Ask that guy if he's interested in some land in Florida.
I replaced the original Jeep bumper with one that has a winch in it. The towbar attaches where the D rings go up front. Very clean.

I've never heard of anyone buying a Jeep for a comfortable drive. Like my DW says, you don't take your Lexus on the beach or through the woods.
But it is the number 1 towed out there and for good reason. It tows nicely, 3500 lbs, it's a great carry all, especially if you remove the rear seat, and it will go anywhere and easy to park. I'd never tow anything else. As far as a 4 door? Well, lets not get started on that...
