Considering to buy 2004 Dutch Star 4014
Considering to buy a 2004 Dutch Star 4014. It has the Spartan Mountain Master Chassis. I have been researching the chassis online but have not been able to find enough information. Looking for input on chassis details and the rig in general. Does it have IFS? All input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

Here is the link to the Newmar archives. Select the year on the right column. There are two 2004 MA to choose from.

I thought the Dutch Star came on the Freightliner chassis.

We had on '04 Dutch Star on a MM chassis. It gave us excellent service and the 370 engine had adequate power. Don't remember on the suspension but I do recall that it drove just fine. I think you'll like it.

I have an 04' 4010 that I am living in full time. I love it. I do have the freightliner chassis but IMHO I don't think it makes much difference. I read where guys swear they can tell the difference but I've personally never been able to tell much difference. The quality of the 04 is above average and you will love it. All chassis have maintenance issues and in my research they all seem to about equal out. Drive it in varying conditions (city/HW) and if you like it buy it.

Have the rubber boots covering the ball joints examined as a less than optimal quality of rubber was used on some allowing dirt/grit to affect the ball joints causing damaging. The fix is a mere $2500-$3000 at your expense to repair and replace.

To actually answer one of your questions, Dutch Stars have always had IFS. IFS is a very good upgrade from straight front axle. I have had both and IFS rode much better.

Make sure to go under it and look it over really gooooood, Especially the radiator from the fan side from underneath, lightly touch and rub the fins and make sure they are not crumbling and falling apart. Check for build up of dirt and wet area's on it in the corners at the bottom. It is no fun doing this but the failure of a radiator and replacing it is a lot worse. If you just look at it from the outside alls you will be looking at is the Charge air cooler and it also looks like a radiator, also you might see a couple of coolers in front of the CAC .

As mentioned earlier, check the boots on the IFS. Mine have and Spartan suggested to keep the joint packed with grease. If the joint is loose, it should be changed. Mine so far have stayed pretty tight. I have them checked every year at service time.
