Getting ready to take my 2002 Newmar Dutch Star to my diesel mechanic in the next few weeks to have my annual maintenance done. I still have the green coolant in my Cat engine and I want to upgrade to Fleetguard or something similar. When I asked my mechanic about this he said that since he could not drain all of the green coolant out due to not being able to remove all the liquid from all the heater hoses that run under the motorhome. He is telling me that it would be a waste of time and money because the green and Fleetguard will not mix. I don't understand all this and am looking for some sort of explanation and help on making a decision about what course to take. It would be a great time to do this because he is replacing all the old hoses on the engine because they are now eight years old.

Help please and thanks.

If the coolant flush is done proper the all hoses/lines would be flushed with water under [pressure completely so there would not be any old coolant to mix. Sounds to me like he doesn't want to go to the extra work for a professional job.

Dusty,I have "Final Charge" extended life coolant in my Bus. It's really good stuff and I believe that Newmar is also using it now or Spartan is. I believe it can be mixed. Check it out..........

You can buy it at a Auto Zone store, Tractor Supply and other parts stores. Wal Mart use to sell it too. I don 't see it there anymore.

I use the same coolant in my engine and genset. ..........Makes things easier. One kind for all!

Go with Shell ETC and forget all about all that filter charge crap. Good for 300,000 miles.
Get the concentrate and mix 50-50 with RO water. Takes all the guess work out of it. Call an oil supply company and get it wholesale. I think I gave $14 a gallon. used 6 gallons ETC and 6 gallons RO water. ISM 500.

ak,
I didn't realize that "Fnal Charge" extended life coolant was crap. It seems that the majority of your major mfr'rs use that crap......They all must not know what they are doing? Bummer !
