Copilot GPS

I’ve been a fan of Copilot GPS for well over 8 years and have it on an iPad for use in our coach. Just a warning to anyone else using the software, the update for iOS that was pushed today REMOVED all RV support. RVs are gone as a vehicle choice. Not sure about the android version, but my guess it is the same. They released a more expensive version just for RVs and looks like the developers have gotten a little greedy and current paying customers be damned.

Be very aware of this before updating the software.

Response from the developer in a nutshell is that because users are too stupid to properly select RV vs. Car in their routing profiles when in their RVs, they needed to pull the RV profiles from the app.

I just checked my Android version, and it remains unchanged. I don't know when it will change, but I am sure it will.

I do not see an RV advantage, and will continue to use it in the car profile.

With the iOS version we lost the ability to set height, weight and length. I guess I'll keep the car version on my iPhone for use on my motorcycle and see what to do about the coach.

I have found that the current height, weight, and length restriction warnings are often very wrong.

The most common issue is the route selection will warn you that the roads are restricted, but as you look into it, it is the campground driveway or the side road to the campground.

I still think it will work very well for routing for the RV's. I have been running it for the last few years with the restrictions set to off, and have been very happy.

You're probably right. Our last coach was a monster at 13'6" so had to be careful. The NA gives me much less angst. I've been running both Copilot and the onboard Xcite system in parallel. I just have to get more comfortable with the onboard system.

Copilot GPS

Do you know exactly which version of Copilot you have? I see in the iOS App Store a “Copilot GPS”. For example I have “Copilot Truck” which comes with a bunch of different truck profiles that you can customize - and then an RV profile that is static. Been using that for 4 seasons and have been happy with it only picking bus sized routes. When I first installed it I tested my custom Canyon Star profile (iPad in the car not the MH) that it warns about height issues when I ignored its route and set off for a low clearance bridge.

Just wondering if the RV profile is only removed from the “GPS” version.

The RV profile was removed in version 10.10.0.535 of “CoPilot GPS Navigation”. You would notice a new application icon.

What is very misleading is the application description on “What’s New”. It certainly reads like the app supports RVs and even trucks.

I just read the update notes and it states that several enhancements have been added for RV navigation. Which version does the OP have?

CoPilot GPS version 10.10.0.535 for iOS - My iPad is still on version 10.7.1.178 and still has the RV settings.

They have an RV version. Probably trying to push you towards that platform.

That is exactly what they are doing. The problem is they haven't updated the iOS version of the RV app in over a year. Based on my email conversation with their technical support and reading between the lines is their rational for removing RV from the standard app is because people in RVs were not selecting the RV profile, using the car profile, getting themselves in trouble and then either giving the app bad reviews or logging tech support complaints.

I have not updated and have the same version (10.7.1.178). This is very disappointing.

Indeed it is. I'm still trying to figure out that if I were to change to the RV version, will all my waypoints and routes transfer. Awaiting an email back from their tech support team. I have iCloud back-up and it keeps my iPad and iPhone in sync. This is a good thing because when creating routes for my motorcycle, it's much easier to do on the iPad than on an iPhone. I'll let you know what I find out.
